The problem with any shop is they want to sell parts and labor this is why I do the work myself . Buy the time you take that in to a shop and have the blinker fluid flushed the air in the tires rotated new muffler bearings races and seals installed . plus they'll sell you 7 injectors because o ya Cummings went to 7 on the common rail you could have just bought a new truck .

Not ALL shops are that way, there are a LOT of honest people that will do there best to be fair to there customers, you just need to find those shops. They do need to make a profit and believe me it is not easy. lots of overhead and lots of time spent no making any money (phone calls, estimates, dealing with parts, cleaning up, talking to the customers, the list goes on)

Looks like all common rails(5.9/6.7) use the same tubes now.

What are the sources beside bbi for new injectors. I have a source for bosch remans and have only had one injector bad ( coil went bad) over 3 years of using them.

All the CR engines CAN use the updated connector tube, doesn't mean it will always work. Putting the 6.7 connector tubes into a 5.9 can be a rat hole you don't want to go down. There are slight differences between the tubes and the mating surfaces of the tubes and injectors from a 6.7 to a 5.9, it doesn't always work and thne you chase problems with rail pressure and leaks. On a reman injector or a used 5.9 injector you want to use the 5.9 tubes NOT the 6.7 tubes. On a brand new set of injectors you can normally get away with used the 6.7 connector tubes and TQ'ing the tubes to the 41 ft lbs. Normally, still not an absolute you won't have issues. Best to use 5.9 tubes with 5.9 injectors and keep the 6.7 stuff to itself. Also, the 6.7 tube is a different size with different orficing. Unless you are runnign a tunes it is possible to run into issues with stock tuning and larger flow tubes, throws the fuel caluculations in the ECU off and that is always an adventure.

New 04.5 plus injectors are available from quite a few sources, Diesel Auto Power comes to mind becasue I have bought from them. There are no new 03-04 injectors being made by Bosch. New for these are the 04.5 body with the early tips transferred. Depending on the competency of the tech doiung the work that is a huge question mark when it comes to buying injectors. BMS has injectors with the correct spray angles for both engine series. For the most part, the early spray patterns work fine in the deep srpay bowls for most uses and they are usually cheaper so that is a popular upgrade. I have run them extensively in a 50 HP version with no issues except better efficiency.

All the BBI and BMS injectors are SAC nozzles. The BMS's are a 7 hole nozzle and still waiting to here on the BBI's for hole count on the 124 degree nozzles.

Yes, superseded to the 2872395. But now they show to use a different number.......I'm getting confused...

As long as we are talking about injectors does anybody know if anyone is buying old cores. I have a set out of my 03 that is just gathering dust in the garage.

Bosch still makes and recommends the 5.9 tubes for 5.9 injectors. The 6.7 tubes will work by why chance and issue, you will gain nothing and possibly introduce problems by using them.

No confusion needed, ignore Cummins part #'s for the cross over tubes and go to a Bosch dealer. Cummins assumes you are using new injectors and that will bite when using remans. Cummins also doesn't really care about the 5.9 anymore as it is OOP.

See, that doesn't make sense either really as Cummins still provides reman 5.9 injectors.

I'm not sayin' that it isn't so, just that it makes no sense at all. They don't want to spend warranty money chasing something like that. I bet they caught on.

Yep, considering the problems and the differences there is something there. The chamfer angles are different between the tubes and injectors. since these are a crush fit it doesn't take much imagination to see how things may not work correctly all the time. Cummins may say and do one thing for corporate purposes but you go talk to the Bosch guys and it is a different story.

Just called and the 4929864 supersedes to the 2872395 even though the supersessions chart, my price tape and my order screen do not showing it doing so.

WTH.......???

I'll keep picking away at this........

First let me say, I parked it.
Actually, the mechanics scared me enough, that I towed the truck from Tonopah, Nevada to Tonopah, Arizona.
I have an 2004.5 Cummings.
I have 240k on the original injectors. I had thought that injectors lasted the life of the vehicle. WRONG!
I stopped to have my alternator checked, because my gauge was showing low voltage.
I was told by a mechanic that I could've ruined my engine. It still runs fine, but, I haven't started it since I was told I might've damaged the engine. I've change all filters every 7500 miles since the day I've owned it, he said this is what saved me.
This is my question:

First, is getting reman injectors,OK. Should I have mine rebuilt, or should I get new ones?
If remans,or new, where's the best place to get them?
Second, I spoke with two mechanics; one said to replace the fuel tubes and the electrical injector grid. The second said just replace the injectors as the other two don't wearout. Whom should I listen to?
Third, what else should I repair/replace at this time?
I would do an oil analysis on your engine oil before I even did anything
