Hi, anyone know a good place to get upgrade shafts for these transfer cases? My friend snapped his output shaft after about 20feet last night. Or is it better to upgrade the whole transfer case? He is running around 550 hp, and has already had to upgrade the input shaft on the transmission. Thanks in advance for any help.

I just had the same thing happen to me on Thursday night, but managed to get to 238 ft before it snapped. I have been researching my best options, since I plan to keep pulling with this truck. I think Haisley sells upgraded shafts, if I rear correctly. A new output shaft from Transfer Case Express is $180. I can upgrade to a NP271 for $795 and that will have a fixed yoke on the output shaft. The front driveshaft will bolt back up. The rear driveshaft will have to be shortened. I found a used NP241DHD, but the price is $600. There is a major difference in output shaft size and lb. ft of torque the NP271 can handle. If he is going to keep pulling, I would do the upgrade and not have problems again. On to the next weak link. Lol.

All 1994 Turbo Diesels were supposed to come with the 241 heavy duty (code DHD) transfer case, but beginning in 1995, it was an option on the 2500 series. The DHD was rated at 1400 ft lb, while the light duty DLD was rated at about 1000 ft lb.
