Hi folks

Heres My Question. We have a 97 3500, 5spd, Bunch of work under the hood, aggresive 245's (stock size), 4. 10 rears. We want to get into serious pulling with this thing ( already pulled last year Several times) What HP level and What Clutch would you recommend to handle that HP in 4 th Gear. What Do we have to do to make it consitently work very well. We pull up here in Ontario Canada and things are just getting going here. ( we would like to set the bar a little higher however than the competetion)

Or should we go to bigger tires and stay in 3Rd? If so , how big and what kinds seem to grab the best.

P. S Any one have 315's ( 35"'s) on a dually? Do you Have Pics?

Thanks

Well, You have three choices on clutches, Mitchell, Haisley, or South Bend. The first two prolly have the most hooks, and are more time proven. Not that there is anything wrong with SBC, just haven't been out as long. As for running 4th gear it will take a few ponies under the hood to do that. As for big tires . #ad

If you want SFI approved parts go with the Haisley/Mcleod unit.

ALso try 2nd Hi for a better pulling gear than 4th low it is a few mph faster than 3rd low and a whole lot easier to dial in.

Thanks Folks,

What about this Schield Unit I keep hearing about ( pulling clutch I mean) Is there Bad blood over this or whats the story? ( no one says much about it!)

TIA

Can ya clue us in on your H. P? (Other than Silencer ring and stacks) prolly because the next weakest link after clutch ... . ???

I run BFG 33" Mud terrains and those looove to chuck mud , grass , CHAINS  work gloves , and a tool box tray pretty far LOL!!

I am gonna guess it will take 550hp to do it well, also it is not always hp that gets the job done if the truck is not set up right.

Check out all the cluthes and price them out and see what you think then.

Hi folks

Forget the truck in my sig, Its just my daily driver. The 3500 ( 97) way Dynoed at about 495-504 hp ( custom single charger on there) last year and more has been done since. ( its in the shop as we speak) Like I said I hadn't heard much about the schield unit ( now I know why;) ) Whats your inpression of the Haisley clutch is it worth the money?

What Kind of ground speed increase should we look for ( with 4k kit)and the 245's vs the 35's?

Where should a guy launch say in 4 th low or 2 hi (rpm wise)?

We pull in an 8000 lbs class

Thanks for your input It really helps.
