Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) 24V electronics

Greetings.



This is my first posting. I have been driving a '97 3500 4x4 for the last five years as a full time daily driver. I recently picked up a complete 24valve and 5600 package that had been pulled out of a rolled 2500 with 60K on the odometer. With it came the full exhaust w/ brake, driveshafts etc. and a Rubbermaid box filled with the entire wiring harness mojo brain boxes and all the connectors.

So... the question I have for you folks is just what does it take to get this thing installed into a vehicle that used to be powered by a 4BT? Could it be as simple as making sure all the connectors are made up and that 12vdc is going into all the right spots?

Be gentle and speak slowly to me. I'm going to try to get this going myself with the minimum amount of cussing and wrench throwing.

Welcome aboard. You'll have a few issues. One is the spedo input from the rear diff - the electronics want to see it.



You need the ECM and the PCU - make sure they are in your box of mojo.



There is some funky/funny stuff that goes on between different sensor inputs and the charging circuit, so you'll want to ensure you use an alternator to fit the 24V motor and all of the starting circuitry/motors.



Do you want cruise control? There are a couple of different styles. I'm sure others will jump in with more points.

Thanks. I do have the CPU, the ECM, and all of the associated circuitry. It came with everything as it sat in the wrecked truck. Everything is attached.



Regarding the speedo input, that could get tricky. Short of trying to get my hands on an appropriate rear axle (the simple, but impractical answer), I wonder if it can be bypassed or fooled somehow?



It's sure to be an interesting attempt.

A Grumman Olson 18ft stepvan. Last year, I converted it to a mobile site office and dive-control van. But, as much as I like the rumble of the 4BT, I just wanted more power and more gearing. When this popped up on the radar, it seemed like too good a deal to let pass by. I don't know, can I just bolt the NV5600 up to the 4BT (with Chevy bell and SM465)? I haven't checked, but I doubt it.
