Today I started on the onramp of I-24 and I noticed a "miss" only once while going up the gears. Well by the time I got to another exit it "missed" only once again. I have an enhancement box(DynoSources) that is either on or off by toggle switch, so I flipped it on and mashed down and all seemed to be OK, so I just thought it was perhaps a little trash or water in the fuel. However, the water in fuel light did not come on.

I thought that all was well, but then when I had passed another exit, it lost all boost, and had hardley any power, and I thought I was going to have to pull over and stop because I felt like it was going to completely quit. It did'nt quit but it barely would run and I got into 3rd gear on the shoulder of the Interstate and managed to get it to 2200 rpm but with NO torque, NO power and NO boost.

I managed to make it to my last chance exit and pulled into a BP station there.

It will run but has a LOT of white smoke when you rev it and some at idle. No water in oil, and pressure is good. Temps are normal for both water and Pyro. Fuel pressure is 14psi at idle and 9psi at WOT. I have replaced two lift pumps so far, but have never run it with 0psi fuel pressure. I can still hear the turbo whine a little at idle, so I think it is OK. I changed fuel filters, thinking that was the problem, the old one was fairly clean, but now it has a new one and that did not cure the problem.

I don't know how to scan for codes, but I did get the 24V code list from ToolManTimTaylor here.

I bought this truck new back in 99, it has only 42K miles, it pulls a heavy gooseneck always and I have been the only driver. I put the box on along with the tripple A piller guages not long after I bought it.

Do you have any ideas about what my problem could be? I have done a search here and I get everything from a bad VP44 pump to a bad IAT or bad APPS or bad MAP or a bad Speed Sensor. (I don't know what these stand for. )

I don't have a clue myself about what could be wrong. Will you tell me what is wrong or can you suggest someone in middle tennessee that has some experience with these 24V engines fuel systems?

All help is appreciated.

Also, I failed to add that today prior to any of this happening, I noticed that the engine seemed EXTRA NOISY or more "rattler" than it always has been in the past. I just noticed this with my radio off not too long before all of these problems occured. Just thought this might suggest something??

the noise and white smoke indicate a timing problem. to scan codes you'll need a scanner or smarty. try travel companion for local help from members. do you have a fuel pressure guage? do you have gasoline in the fuel?

I've had a FP guage on it from when it was almost new. No, it does not have any gas in the diesel.

The MAP sensor is on the driver side of the block, just behind the fuel filter, on the bottom of the intake chamber. It has an electrical connector on the back. Don't confuse it with the IAT sensor, which is toward the rear of the engine, same general location on the block.

The MAP sensor is here, easily seen if you remove the rear engine lifting loop:

#ad

It takes a deep, 1 1/16 inch socket and a 6 inch or so extension to remove/install.

You can buy them HERE for under $50:

Cummins Sensors

And for later Cummins, another $12 or so for a harness adapter - but you shouldn't need one for yours (I think!).

I'll check those both, but I've been reading various posts here and the more I search, the more I believe it may be my VP44:mad:
