24V Fleetguarard Oil filter on a 12V

I just noticed ... got a LF3894 ... should have a LF3552.



uuuuuh ... ... my bad, didn't verify the #. Is this a bad/dangerous thing? Yes ... it's installed, been on there about a week.

I didn't know they were still selling the LF3552. The LF3894 is the recommended filter for all the 2nd gen trucks. I've been using them since they have been available.

You can also use the 3rd gen oil filter on all years also...

They sure are. That is what I have on there right now. Cummins shop was out of the LF3894 last time I needed filters.

I use the LF16035 3rd gen filter. The fluted can is nice.



Too bad you can't get an oil filter wrench on the flutes



It helps with getting it off by hand, though.

Sears Craftman make a very nice rubber strap wrench that works vey well for the them pesky oil filters

I use the LF16035 3rd gen filter. The fluted can is nice.

It helps with getting it off by hand, though.

dirt easy to get on the flutes on the 3rd gens... socket and a ±10" extension, no problem from under...

2nd gens have some hardware right under the filter. I tried and tried, but could NOT get Geno's six-in-one wrench on the end of the filter.



The hardest part was getting the filter wrench back OUT of there once I realized there was no way I was getting the wrench on there.



For me, the 6-in-1 was a waste of Money.

I have used the 3894 (Stratapore) on my 12V for years. It's a better filter than the 3552, filters out smaller debris and has a higher burst strength, as I remember.

What is a good cheap source for fleetguard filters like to get a case (12 or 24) shipped to my door and know that I am set for a few years.



The fleetguard online store is reasonable at $9. 17 for a 3894 but the shipping is high 14 something for one filter ups ground not sure if that would go up with the order quantity didn't try.

Check your local big rig dealer. I get them for less than Geno's at the Peterbilt shop.
