In the spirit of specialty tool sharing (like the 4" hole saw for Psychotties)... . is there an injector removal tool floating around that I might be able to borrow to, uh, install a set on a friends truck?

DD's instruction sheet says use one of the short bolts outa the intake elbow, screw it into the injector, and use a short prybar to "pop" the injector out of the head. Make DAMN sure the tube is pulled back 3/8 to 1/2 inch before you gently "pop" the injector outa the hole it lives in... #ad

Scooby,
I just used one of the Valve Cover Bolts and screwed into the injector and then used a 11/16 open end wrench as a folcrum rested on the near by rocker arm. The injectors just popped out!

i have the tool , its pretty basic , i bought it for ... um ... in preperation for being out of warranty in 5 yrs ... ya thats it ...

Scooby, Frijole was talking about the Injector tubes, They have to be removed BEFORE the Injectors comes out!, Or you will ruin the tubes and will not get the Injectors out at all.
Doug.

You don't need no stinking tool!

Just back out the interior tube before removing the injector. I screw a manifold heater bolt into the injector and rip them out with my hand. Arrr Arrr

I've changed my injectors a few times now. Of the tools shown in the service manual, the one that really comes in handy is the "puller" for the injector tubes. It really does make pulling the tubes a snap. The cost of the tool isn't much more than you'll pay in postage if you were to borrow and then return one from someone "here". As HVAC and others have mentioned, the injector puller isn't really necessary. Good Luck!

Scooby, look at the new injectors that you're installing in a friends truck, uh, yea, that's it. On the side of the injector, there is a hole, that's where the fuel enters the injector, has an "O"-ring for a seal on the tube. If the tube isn't pulled back far enough when you try to pull the injector, the move will deform the end of the tube. BAD NEWS. Just go slow 'til you get the hang of whtchyourdoin.

Scooby - I have both the injector puller and the tube puller and these guys are on track when they say the injector puller can be replaced with a manifold bolt but the tube puller was a nice tool since I felt uncomfortable using a pair of needle nose pliers or a screw driver to pop the tube out and away from the injector. The tube puller through Miller Tools was about $5. + s&h.

When I changed my injectors I got a metric bolt and nut (don't remember the mm size) but it was a couple inches long. I then took a deep well socket that fit over the injector and then put the bolt and nut through the square hole in the socket. Screw the bolt into the top of the injector until it is just finger tip tight. Then use a wrench to turn the nut down which will then pull the injector out. Oh... you'll want to put a washer between the socket and the nut to make it work smoother.

Worked great.

Thanks for the help gentlemen!

So does anyone have a web page or phone number for "Miller Tools"? I'd hate to ask my Dodge dealer for one, as they'd probably want $50+ for one... :)
