Through a series of events I no longer have my 99 24v and have aquired a 97 12v. However I have some oil filters left over, anyone know if they will fit.

Thanks

If they're LF 3894 Stratapore they work fine. That's the only one I've ever used on my '96. Cummins recommends 3894 for 12v

My Cummins dealer only stocks the 3894 for all 5. 9's, 2002 and back. Said you could order one of the others if you wanted, but didn't recommend it.

Just because a filter will fit does not mean that it can be used interchangably with another one. Oil filters usually have a built-in bypass valve that is set to open at a certain pressure differential in order to provide oil to the engine even if the filter is totally clogged. The bypass pressure can be different for different filters, even though they look the same and will mount on the same engine.

That said, you can use the 12 valve and 24 valve filters interchangably. Fleetguard, the Cummins filter subsidiary, recommends the LF 3959 or the Stratopore LF 3894 filter for both engine types.

At NAPA, we give you a 1607 for either 12 or 24 valve. Never had any complaints at all, and I live in the middle of Dodge Cummins country I know 03-up are different filters and Im not sure, but I think 93-back is different.
