Maybe this is an easy one. After fuel is sent to the VP, approximately 30% might get burnt while 70% us sent back. I wasn't sure if the return pressure would be higher than the supply pressure (15psi) since it went through the VP's internal pumps. Is it also low pressure... ie: 15psi? I dont want to overlook my return while upgrading the supply. Thanks.

The return fuel pressure is very low. I wouldn't excpect it to be more than 1 psi. To get pressure you need restriction the return fuel line dumps into the tank the only restriction is the line and fittings used to get it from the engine back to the tank so there is very little pressure.

Cummins spec is 10 psi max at the injection pump.

I'm with kk though, doubt if it's more than 1 psi unless something is wrong.

Somewhere in this thread there was a post about a guy who put a flow meter on the return line... the results where quite suprising... its also one of the best threads done on fuel pressure on the 24v trucks.

Happy Reading.

Good. Looks like I dont have to worry about the return too much. I had to double check. The line is small enough for me to think the hose dia itself would provide a good bit of resistance depending on how much the VP was trying to push through it. I'm glad to hear its low.

I suppose if it were high, there might be some foaming action going on in the tank at low levels. At least some turbulence at the pickup. Thanks for the info gentlemen.
