8.3 Cummins repower pics?

Problem yet unsolved

just figured out my first tank... ... ... ... . averaged 25. 55 mpg's driving it like I stole it. WOW! I cannot believe I am getting this kind of mileage, I was figuring more like 15-16 at best.

Not much else to talk about, just had to share that with ya'll... .

:D

Should we start a support group????

What ya think? We could call it the TDR_POW Club. I do have to admit that mine is quite a bit happier now that she can actually ride in it... .....

Matt S, no, not yet. I have tons of pics and the rest of the story, but haven't had time to update the website. I am very pleased with the way it came out, though. It is definately unique.

Cheers.

James,

I just ran down to Ohio, went from west Michigan to Dayton OH to Columbus OH and home on 2 tanks of Diesel !!!:D  . Trip down I got almost 23mpg running 70mph & at 80mph on the way home I got around 21mpg. My wife failed to tell me that she had been noticing a green spot under our 97 Chrysler Mini Van:( , and after I had loaded up the van and started checking little things like tire pressure I noticed it too. The water pump was about to fail, so we loaded up the truck(the farthest I had driven it since the 2nd conversion was 25 miles) and headed south. The old truck ran like a clock with the exception of the brand new rebuilt alternator from NAPA died 100 miles from Dayton    . We drove the 100 miles on battery power only, which got us to grandmas house for Thanksgiving and it still had lots of power left for starting !! Got a new alternator at Pep Boys"they had one on the shelf" and that was last time I got out my tools :D . As for the wife starting to complain about the cost, I answer with gee honey then maybe I should buy a new one, it will only cost around $40,000 and the payments will only be a little more than the house  . I only have to start to say that now and she stops complaining ;). I will use that one again when I order my new NV4500 in Jan. ! I am getting tired of hearing my getrag going down the highway.

Unbelievable.........ain't it????

that's way cool, kyle. Glad to see you back on the road again. Sorry I haven't had a chance to get with you on the other thing. If you are still interested, let me know. I have just about got my life back in order now that our company 'split' is more-or-less accomplished.

BTW, I suppose your brake deptartment is still 'lacking'. If you wanna have some killer brakes, stuff a hydroboost off a late 97 (?) or 98 model on your CC. I can lock up all four 35" tires on my truck just by looking at the brake pedal now. The vaccum pump will still run your heat/ac and cruise, but you will probably have to get a late model PS pump to run the brakes (2 Pressure ports and 2 returns). The PS lines will fit on your stock 85 box, and you will have to fab a mounting plate for the booster and shorten the pushrod assembly. The worst part of the whole thing for me was trying to find brake lines that were sae on one end and metric on the other (the newer master cylinder is metric), so I finally just cut the metric lines up by the master cylinder and soldered them to my sae lines. I figure I could do it in less than a day from scratch, and the returns are incredible. :D

James,

sure I am still interested in the site. :) As for brakes, mine work just fine with vacum boost. I really couldn't justify the expense of a hydroboost after I have already replaced everthing in the brake system. I would like to some how upgrade to rear disk brakes on my dana 60 axle. Are you going to post some of your photos in the "readers rigs" section ? I would like others to see that there is more than one nut in the tree :D ;) . I have some of my crew cab photos there now and I am going to add more when I get more time.

Kyle

How are you guys getting that kind of mpg's! The best I've got in the 5 months I've been driving the burb is 17mpg and that was using a real light foot. Normal driving is about 15.

Lucky, I guess.........

Well, first off, We got sticks, so there's part of it. I personally am running 35 " tires and 3. 54 gears, which puts me cruising 75 @ 1900 rpm's in 5th (overdrive). Other than that I don't really know, but it's definately a pleasant suprise. :D

Hutchew,

Nice site!!! Nicer truck:D

I about to start my own conversion of a 1970 crew cab. . see the thread in this forum

I'm interested in costs and problems/concerns you had and how you solved them. Why you did it the way you did it type stuff.

Thanks,

Mark

#1 reason for doing it..........

I just really like the way those older Dodges look, and I am partly insane :D

Ask away, Mark. If i don't have the answer, I guarantee somebody here does... ... Good luck with your convert. ;)

How did you happen across your engine and transmission? All I have seen have been in the 5k range.

Anyone know of a source who is not seeing $$$???

I got to looking around at http://www.industrialautomatic.com/index.html

Clled them, talked to a guy named Doug. Very helpful. Said his boss knew of a guy who had 12 complete CTDs. I'll post something if they are reasonably priced.

The Allison World. . NON CHEBBY. . Is cool. It better be for $9K:eek:
