Last week I ordered a new 2500 from TDR member George Sellers in Mechanicsburg PA. He had said the deal was this: Factory invoice less the current $1500 factory rebate and the $500 farm rebate.
The invoice was exactly the same as in Kelly - plus two advertising charges of $160 and $170, plus the destination charge of $795, plus $16 for fuel, plus $20 for "Customer One Owner Loyalty Mailing". I ordered Patriot Blue but that is on indefinite restriction. So I have to pick another color - bad news.
The Real Reason why I did this:
George is a member of TDR and has made a few posts, not just announcements that he sells Rams. He owns a RAM and is interested in Ram as a truck not just as an income. Other than the price, which SEEMS good to me for this area, I want straightforward dealing and follow through. I guess any dealer can mess with you up till delivery time (and after) if he wants to. So I'm going with my positive hunch here. I'll keep you posted on how this turns out. For one thing he said deliveries were taking about four weeks following placement of factory order. According to that, my date would be March 13.
The Question:
Should I ask for a signed contractual letter with all details including a statement that the rebates will work for me after 2/28/03? So far he sent me just email: a copy of the factory order and his email message which says the right things:
"On your order, you will get the current rebate of 1,500 plus possibly the farm bureau rebate of 500 (if you qualify) off the invoice price 35,369. 00 the temp tag cost are 40. 00 and that is it. "
Some of you all say get everything in writing and SIGNED. So is the email enough? I am no expert on buying new cars or trucks. Dealing is not something I spend a good lot of time learning about - just enough for once in a blue moon when I buy a new one. This is my second new-from-the-factory vehicle in 40 years. The first was a Camry last year.
I learned most of what I know so far about these trucks here on TDR. Thanks to everyone!
John
