Ebay dude said "fly in & drive it back to Florida... no problem" . . so I win the auction, catch a ride to Mi. & he says "you cant pick it up for 3 more days" w/ no explanation.
(he obviously needed time to piece the grenaded rear end back together)
so I show up in 3 days & he says " it just developed a small PS leak & I was going to fix it, but they sold me the wrong seal, but you should be ok back to florida" (lol it used as much PS fluid as it did diesel on the 40 mile ride to Pinckney!) ... anyway, so we take it for a ride & I can hear the rear end roaring on the dirt road at 15mph! ... & then on the hard road, LOUD roar. I say "no way this is making it to Florida" . . he says I thought it was the tires" (I'm not makin this up!!) back at his place, he instructs me to park on the grass so as not to soil the driveway, & I look underneath to find the drivers brake drum dripping 90wt, & the rear dif cover gooped w/ fresh silicone.
(!@#$%^&!!!)
long story short... he gives me a little of my money back, & I figure "I can fix this thing, Pinion, & axle bearings aren't that hard to do" . . well I was wrong.
Not sure what broke, but it scared the inside of the dif cover badly, & left an ugly pattern on all the gears... even the side gears. the drivers outer axle bearing was toast (lucky to have made it 40 miles) & whatever attempt was made at repairing the center section resulted in the Pinion bearings being bound so tight you could count every roller in the bearings as you forcefully rotate it with the yoke. at this point I have installed a new axle bearing, front Pinion bearing & removed 1 of the Pinion shims to loosen it up, but 1 wasent enough, as it was still very tight, & I was unable to get it back apart (limited tools) to remove another shim, so I backed off on the nut & staked it where it seamed free. the roar is not as loud (bad pattern on the ring / Pinion?) but I still have major reservations about the 1000 mile ride home.
... ANYBODY GOT ONE ????? -Matt
