All the threads I've seen on the subject say run the snot out of it. 2300 & up is right where you need to be, any lower is considered lugging.

2001. 5 ETH/DEE 2500 4x4 3. 54 lsd. 33' Weekend Warrior 5er and an army of toys to fill it!
'96 1500 360 3. 90 LSD 3" cat back no muffler! 110,000 and still eating chebbys for lunch!

I did the same thing last year driving to the sierra's and back towing my 10K 5er.

No problem at all 70mph @ 2300 RPM #ad

Nothing wrong with staying out of OD, engaging the cruise control at 2450 rpm's and watching the miles click pass. Kinda like sliced bread along with peanut and jelly. It all goes together.

Should I have any concern with driving/towing on a long trip with the O/D turned off? My 5th wheel is a little over 10K and it pulls a lot better with the O/D off. Any concerns with driving all day in between 2500-2750 RPM? A side from the extra noise that is.

According to the little article my Cummins Power Booster newsletter, the Cummins tech explained that these engine were built and tested to run at constant throttle peak hp for sustained periods of time. The article stated it wouldn't hurt the engine to run at 2500 sustained as that is right around where the hp peak is.
I would think under a load that would also be easier on your automatic.

Don't forget that for those of us with 3500's, 4:10 gears, 2500 rpm is 70 mph with 215-85-16's.

Will not hurt it and as those above stated, you are at about hp peak and ready to ride the torque rise when the hill comes along. #ad

Ahhhh, What could be better when runnin' through town with a straight pipe, and, "Driving like you are supposed too" ?
