2500 Short Bed Fuel Tank

On my the window sticker of my truck it says that I should have a 34 gallon fuel tank but I only fill up to 26 Gallons. Why the discrepancy?

You have a 34 gallon tank but there is apx 8 gal's left after the light comes on. It annoys me too but what can u do?

Fuel Light

I wondered about this early warning also, this is all I could come up with.



At 19 MPG the light and tone come on after aprox. 494 miles with 152 miles range left.



Say If you were towing heavy in the mountains getting 10 MPG the light would come on at 260 miles and would have 80 miles range to figure out where your fueling up next.



My thinking is they set up warning for lower mileage towing?

So my dummy light is wrong and I can go another 140 miles no prob eh? If I run out of fuel do I have to reprime my injectors? I'm going to test this theory out about having another 8 gallons of fuel in my tank.

cmck, the light is "wrong". I found out early on, 1600 mile trip , 6 day old truck . When my light comes on I've got about 8 gal. remaining {it is a 34 gal. tank}. Not only that, on exact "E" I've got 2 gal. left, that is a longer story. Have Fun, Jim G.

Just keep it above 1/2. The only time you have too much fuel is if your on FIRE!!!!!

Sender Mod

This is the first Mod I did to my truck... ... Bugged the bejesus out of me that I had, what I called an innaccurate gauge. I know, you might think they do it on pupose because of the cooling, etc. , requirements. .

Whatever... I'm stuck on the rear mirror, and fuel gauge like cat poop on a blanket. . Plus I'm not stupid. .



So I dropped the tank, way easy, pulled out the sender massaged (I like that word), the sending unit arm, in a downward fashion, and reassembled... Worked for me. .

How many gal's left in the tank when it goes off now? I like the sound of this. How much did you "massage" the arm. How much deeper does the arm sit at the bottom?

I have about three Gals in there when the dinger go's off, but the needle has already hit the big "E"... . This is from memory... But I'm thinkin it was about 4" from the bottom, and I believe I tweaked it down to 2"... . Ill go thru my notes and see If I took scribbled the demensions...

25000 short bed fuel guage

I had the same problem on my 02. The first thing the dealer did was to "recalibrate" the sending unit by bending it. The probelm was, after he bent it, it said I had 3/4 tank when I only had 10 gal in the tank.

Well, I made them order a new sening unt (the whole module). Well, low and behold, with the new sending unit, I now have the most accurate fuel guage I have ever had in a car or truck. When the guage says 1/8 full and the low fuel lite comes on, I have as close to 4. 24 gal in the tank as I can get.

The dealer said the sending units were on back order and it took a week and a half to get it in . He said that meant there is probably a problem with the units installed at the factory (I got my truck in Sept 01).

Did the earlier trucks have a different size tank ? I wonder if they just put in the wrong sending units to use up stock thinking we might be too stupid to think there is a problem
