I'm still dabbling with the new truck idea... ... Got a decent deal possibly in the works.

The more I research, the more questions i have.

I called Dodge parts and learned that both 2500 and 3500 (2012) have the same rotors and disc pads front/rear, thus stopping power is the same, I'm guessing????

If one were to order a 2500 w/4:10 rears ie tow package(not tow max) and install air bags, what would be the difference from a 3500? Other then 2K in price, and "sticker ratings", are the frames different or ????

The Dodge ram site says 2500 is 14600K towing, 3500 16300 or there abouts same gears etc... . There has to be more to this then meets the eye.

Any info would be appreciated.

I'd almost pay the $2,000. 00 just to avoid the TPMS.

I have had trouble with that feature on both Town and Countrys already.

I can't even imagine having it on a pick-up truck... ... ...

Mike. :)

tpms?

I've seen 2012 3500's at the Dodge dealer without the extra springs? And I double looked to make sure I was looking at a "3500" decal?? Go figure??

I tell ya - the spring pack on my new 2012 3500 SRW looks smaller than the one on my 2005 3500 SRW I traded in. We will see how it does with a load.

If you are pulling anything heavy with a lot of hitch weight, I would NOT even consider anything but a dually. I bought a big 40 ft toy hauler and was pulling with an 09 2500 4x4 longbed, it could do it but the tires are maxed out , there is no fudge factor, if you blow a tire it will get nasty quick. I bought a 2011 4x4 3500 dually and it pulls a lot more stable and feels a lot safer. .

Hand's down go for the 3500 my 08 2500 we had felt like a over grown car the 2011 3500 we have now run's and drives just like it should being a Truck as for towing if it's not every day then just throw a set of airbag's on the back and you will be Happy I have towed a 40 ft bumper pull 3 axle trailer several times now and didn't have any problem's with sway or anything else handled 25,500 just fine all the way up into Washing st . yes DRW are nice but they also limit you while doing thing's in town besides you will save several hundred dollar's in wheel's n tires with SRW

A simple programer will take care of this issue. But I highly agree with you, id rather spend my money somewhere else on the truck.

Manual transfer case vs electronic if 4wd

Not true. Both 2500 and 3500 have electronic transfer case in SLT and Laramie trims.

ST is the only way to get a manual t-case, 2500 or 3500 doesn't matter.

Only difference on the 2500 and 3500 is the rear springs and the lack of TPMS on the 3500. Other than that, they are identical. Oh, and no Hemi in 3500.

Is yours a 3500?

Yes, it is. IMO, these systems usually work fine for most applications unless you are hardcore mudding frequently. I've had many work pick-ups used for oilfield applications that frequently (almost daily) had these systems in the mud without fail. Just like the manual shifter or an emergency brake, the best medicine is to engage/disengage it once in a while if it's not used frequently. That includes throwing it in low range once in a while. Also, keep your truck clean underneath when possible.
