;) Hi everybody, great site!!

I have a 98. 5 2500 4x2 sport auto with 4. 10's, stock 245 tires. I would like to go with a taller tire to reduce my effective gear to around 3. 73, since I dont tow heavy, and spend most of my time crusing empty on the interstate, sure would like to get my rpms down closer to 2000 rpm at 70 in od. Anybody have any "speerience" with the 255/85 16 tire? Will it fit the 6 1/2" wheel? Is there a better alternative for what I am looking for? Any help would be "preciated". Thanks--Pat (the new guy). :)

They fit the wheel perfectly. The problem is they might not fit your wheelwell. I think the fronts are the problem. I don't see how the rear could be. Perhaps you could go for a tire rake?

Tire Rake?

Do you mean running a shorter tire in the front than in the back? I see you have a cuda. Sweet. Id love to have a Hemi Cuda, thats my dream, but I also would like to win the Lotto. :)

The 255's fit with no problems, just put a set of 285/75 16 on mine and with the stock rims they would just clear by about 1/2 inch. but when i put new rims on the offset was 1 inch more to the outside and now they hit when i go over bumps on a turn! Mike

Wow, you got 285's on a 2wd? The 255/85 is just a tad taller than the 285, but it is about an inch narrower. Are you stock in the front end or are you lifting/ leveling? I dont know what im gonna do, I dont want rubbing.

Does anyone have spacers to run the wider tires on the 3500's ? I have never seen these advertised so maybe it is a

safety concern. Thanks RJ

I think my next set will be 255-85-16 Great size all around including the width. Narrower, (not wider) better for snow ect. but still nice and tall

I am in desperate need of new tires, my 285's are pretty much gone, and I will be going with a 255/85 this time. Does anybody have any recommendations as far as tire brand/type?

I know there isn't too much to choose from in that size, but I would like something the wears well, while having a fairly aggressive tread design.

I have 2. 65-75 16's on my 02 6 speed and wanted a better ride AND higher gear effect. Be careful, these tires have a larger "measured" OD but since they are softer riding, they effectively ended up with the same "rolling" OD. I know this because I did NOT notice ANY lower RPM and this was confermed when I had the speed checked, it is right on at 80 MPH and below.
