Will 255's mount up ok on 16x8 wheels? I imagine they'll look a little ballooned compared to how they look on the stock steelies, but any problems beyond that?

I think it would be just fine. As a 255 specs out at 10" width, it should not be an issue. I would double check with a tire shop that carries that brand of tire and get the manufacturers specs.

I had 255/85's on my '95 CTD with 7 inch rims. 8 inches would have been better IMO to give a flatter tread face.

It depends. 2500 or 3500. I have 'em on my 3500 but that is only because it is a 2001 on up. 2000 on down have different backspacing. 2500's they look nice as the rim is 2" (Read 1. 53")wider than that of a 1 ton. A 255/85 measures out to a 33. 4X10X16

Nps How ya like that 330??

I have run 255's on 8" wheels and on 98 steel wheels (6. 5?) and yes they work on the 8". That being said I thought they looked stupid on the wider wheel. They were BFG MT. On an 8" wheel 285 or 295 works better.

Thanks for the replies guys. They're 255 BFG M/T's, I went with the narrrow tire because I still had the factory narrow steel wheel. But I just found a bargain on a set of wheels I've been wanting for a long time, 16x8 though. Oh well guess I'll give it a shot.

No complaints - wife drives it mostly and it is turning over 4K miles after the first year. Much better ride and interior finish than the Mercedes ML it replaced (the ML only had 9K miles after 2 years).

She's been eyeing the RX400 hybrid, but I told her that she can buy alot of gas for the difference she will pay to get into the 400. And given the amount of miles she drives, it would be a lifetime before it paid itself back.

I've been running those 255-85's on my stock 96 rims for some time. I was told that they were the widest size that would fit those rims. I just wish they came in a load range e.
