255's on stock wheels??

I was just reading in the archives about the biggest size tire you can get on the stock wheels (W250 )?

How much taller and wider are 255's than 235/85's ?

What choice of tires do I have?

Do they rub very much (a little is ok)

Does anyone have a picture of a 1st Gen with 255's ??

I would really like to see that.

I am going to get some new wheels so I can go to 285's

but it will be 6 months to a year and it wont be but a couple till I need new tires.

The 255's work well with stock wheels and ride hight, here's and striped down picture of my truck with Dunlop radial rover rv's 33. 1" tall 10 " wide, these were great tires never a problem.

I was reading in the archives about how 255's are hard to balance, unstable towing etc... I only tow maybe once a month at the most. Maybe 265's are better for me. The only thing I don't like about 265's is the load rating. I think it is a D but the weight is different for different brands,styles. My uncles 2500 CTD has 265's and the max weight is 3000# (i think i read that right)

and some other 265's are only 2500# or so???? What's the deal?

If I could get the ones with the 3000 pound rating I would go with that, 42 less pounds a tire shouldn't matter too much.

The 255's are a great tire on stock wheels. Especially if you have 4. 10's and good power. Load stability is not a problem w/ them if you get a good tire w/ a stiff sidewall. We found a increase in mileage and overall ride comfort.

Our '92 ran a little over 50,000mi on BFG MT 255's. As for load rating we ran our's about 3yrs loaded very heavy(trailer=19,000lbs) about 75% of those miles and never lost a tire.
