Just got back from a 600 + mile roundtrip from Ct to Baltimore & back.

Got 26. 8 mpg running empty at 70/80 mph with some higher bursts when needed.

:D

Got to love it!

That's great Jay! One of the reasons I'd like to pick up a D250 with a 5 spd. With my 4x4 I can get 25-26 but I need to drive it like grandma for the full tank, and that's only happened once or twice. #ad

great mileage!!!!!

I have a buddy that runs VERY mild propane (20gal/5k mi) and gets 26-28 in a '94 4x2 Auto 2500 that grosses ~10k# 24/7.

It is impressive to say the least. Not enough drugs for head gasket issues. Just enough to catalyze the diesel process and make it very efficient.

Speaking of good mileage... ...

On my trip home from Muncie, I got an amazing 22. 5mpg. My best ever. That was while driving through the hills and doing 75 - 85mph. I got up to 100mph at one point when this black truck with wooden bed rails climbed up on my tailgate :-laf :-laf :p I usually get about 16mpg average.

JLEONARD,

I may soon be on your heels. I have gotten a high so far with the 91 (Ford died- more in general forum) of 22. 8 mpg. This was with the worn out stock turbo (now has PDR HX35-18; not pretty, but get 28PSI) and going 65-68 with 4. 10s. I know I have 1 bad injector, maybe more. At 252K, still original fuel system. Let me get injecotrs (Lucas or stock new) and intercooler from 2nd Gen, and I may top 24. My goal is 25 at least twice, then it isnt a strange fluke. BTW- that WAS U. S. gallons, not imperial, right? Daniel

All these stories are incredible. First, great mileage. Second, how did you reach 100mph. I know I am completely stock, but with my foot to the floor, foot tired as all get out, I can barely get 80mph. Obviously all those ugrades work pretty well together. Where should a rookie on a very fixed budget start????

Regular US gallons... yes.

And Sean, I was on my way to 100 once but the wife was givin' me the evil eye... .

so I held at 90 for about a minute to "reposition" myself in the traffic flow. That was on the lower Jersey tpk where the only rule is that there are no rules.

:D

And I've gotten 26 in the past on a trip so this is no fluke (not a flounder either).

I used to be able to squeeeeeze 85mph max out of 'er when things were all box stock. I'm not kidding about the 100+mph. A couple turns on the high idle screw, and much tighter torque convertor really help a lot. Also, your gearing will play a big part in top speed. I have 3. 54 gears, which are most common. If you have 4. 10's then your top speed will drop accordingly. Hummm..... where's that guy with the black dually and 3. 08's? :-laf

Fuel mileage...

 Best I've done with an auto is 21. 3. Is there anything I can do in my backyard with the transmission to increase mileage. I daily drive my rig, I'm sure that is part of my fuel numbers. Any other ideas...
