I am debating new tires and was wondering if one size would offer a decrease in wear to steering components. I guess different tire compounds could have an effect as well, but in general would a narrower tire offer a decrease in resistance and reduction in steering component wear?

As far as steering goes, a skinnier tire would not need as much effort for steering, but height of the tire would result in more wheel travel (mpg's mainly) IMO. I had an '89 ram 250 cummins with 30x9. 50 R15 (if i remember correctly) and I was responding to a fire call and made a slightly hard turn and jerked the wheel and my gearbox failed (saved the truck tho :)). Could also have been a defective gearbox never will know. After I had it fixed, took that turn easier, and never had a problem again. IMO I think it's more of how hard the driver takes turns that cause wear and tear on steering components more than the tires themselves. Hope this helps and good luck with your decision.

Thanks Wayde, that's kinda what I figured, but wasn't completely sure, so a quick shout out was the way to go. I am considering the taller/narrow tire as it is very similar to the OEM 265s. Should have little to no difference to the speedOmeter. Just need some slimmer rims now.
