I have been checking tire prices and had a guy from Discount tire tell me I could run the 265/70/17`s on my 06 dually rather than the stock 235/80/17`s and NOT have a problem with the tires rubbing each other on the rear even with a 2100# pin weight from my 38` 5er. So now has or is anyone currently doing this and not having rubbing issues? I know you guys can give me the heads up on this... ... ... Thanks as always and Happy Holidays! There is a larger selection of tires in the 265 size too.

I was going to go this route as well... untill I was able to piece together a few smokin' deals on a new set of wheels and a fresh new set of LTX M/S's in stock size for mine. They do not pose a problem if kept aired up to where they should be (70-80 PSI ) and not run half flat like some people do .

I have run Pirelli Scorpian STR A LT265/70-17 E during the summer and Nokian Hakkapeliita LT265/70-17 E studded snow tires during the winter, with no issues either empty or with my 4,200 pound slide in truck camper loaded in the bed the past two years.

Maybe it is the smaller clearance, maybe luck, but I haven't had rocks wedge between my duals while driving alot of forest service roads.

Sounds like we have the same truck. Can you take a picture of the 265's (Rear) Id like to see the clearence between the duals with the 4200Lbs on then. I really would like to do this my next tire purchace.

I would still like to see the clarence when loaded heavy. I went through this when I tried to put 245/75-16's on my 99 daully. They cleared when looked at while the truck was parked and loaded. It was when the truck was rolling down the road hitting bumps etc they would touch.

I used chalk on the inside rears to verify this, man what a waste of some expensive Michelin's. I ended taking them off.

thanks so far for the input and response, sounds like it may work out just fine! I sure would like to see a set mounted just to look at clearance, many more tires to choose from with higher weight ratings.

I agree. If you find a set on a truck stick you head in the rear wheel well and check the inside of the tires. Chalk will tell the real story. If i saw a set id be able to tell if they were hitting in a second.

Also gearing is an issue. It doesnt say in your sig what gearing you have. And with an auto id think you would want 4. 10. 1 or lower.

I took my TC off to work on the truck and change over to winter tires. I'll post a picture when I load my TC back on later this week.

That would be great RB. Also if you can id like to see some pics from the back of the truck either loaded or empty. I would like to see how far they stick out of the rear fenders.

Thanks

This took a little longer and it was harder to take a clear picture than I thought ...

Picture of summer and winter tires, both 265/70-17, with truck unloaded (60psi).

With 4,200 lbs TC in the bed and at 80 psi (0. 40" narrow clearance at bottom, 0. 78" clearance elsewhere)

Due to the TC you really can not see the tires and fenders well from the back. What you can see is that the tires are still under the top of the fender as seen from the front.
