Installed my 275's today and now truck won't start. Did everything by the book and the procedure was straight forward. It took about 3 1/2 hours. I have cracked all 6 injector lines and have fuel comming out, but still nothing. I've tried so many times the battery's are run down. What can I do? Have I missed something?

Please help

Paul

Just a thought: Did you install them the right way? They can be turned 180 degrees and not get any fuel pumped into the injectors.

I was carefull about the way I put in the injectors, so I am almost certain they are all the right way around. It's dark now but I did just try a squirt of Etha and she fired up and ran like crap, smoked real bad. Is the smoke because of not having the intake on and hence no boost?

I will play again tomorrow.

When I did mine, one person cracked the lines open while I was trying to start the truck. If there is a lot of air you will probably need to do it this way. I hope a pro chimes in soon.

Well when I did mine , all I did was bump the starter 3 or 4 times first and it lit right off. I even had my injector lines taken right off because I had to change the connector tubes. I don't know why you would be having so much trouble, I didn't even have to bleed my lines, just bumping the starter did it for me. Hope you have better luck tomorrow:)

I just installed mine today and had no problems getting it to fire up. I'm not sure you could put the injector in the wrong way and still install the connector tube. If you tightened it down that way, the tube would be crushed. Check if the large nuts holding the high pressure lines to the head are seated down to where they were originally. Once it starts, it will smoke a bit but then it clears up. Sorry I can't be more help.

Installed my 275's a couple of weeks ago, and after everything was reinstalled all it took to start her up was cycling the lift pump a few times by bumping the starter. (Just like I do after a fuel filter change) When it started it ran rough for about 10-15 seconds, this was due to not having all of the injectors primed. It then smoothed out. I think it would take a bit of work to install an injector 180 degrees out, but anything is possible. And of course the tubes would be damaged beyond use. Yes mine smoked at idle for maybe a minute when it started the first time after the install.

Ok fellas something is just not right. Truck still only starts with a shot of etha, and runs like crap, lots of white smoke. I let her idle about 3 or 4 minutes and still never cleared up. When I shut it down, still no start, only with etha again. It feels like it is not firing on all cylinders. I am going to take the injectors out one by one and carefully check they are installed right. If that does not work I will put the old ones back in and see if that works.

What's the chance that your VP44 is shot now? Has anyone out there find out that their injection pump was no good after installing new injectors? How is the pressure on your lift pump?

did you check the lift pump before breaking the system loose? If you have a dead lift pump, the truck may not start on its own now because you have gotten air in the system, with a dead lift pump it may be hard to get it out. Also if the pumps running cycle the pump 3 times,by bumping the starter for a quick second, then letting off the key you should hear the pump running under the hood for at least 25 seconds. Do that 3 times, and try cranking it after the 3rd time,it should fire up. Id let if run more than 3-4 minutes too,it can take a long time to get all the air out of the system, run it at fast idle or drive it a few more minutes before giving up and removing them.

Good point on the LP, i was thinking that too. it is almost impossilble to put the injectors in backwards, at least it appeart to be that way when i installed mine. id check your fp right away, mine ran like crap for 20 seconds then cleared up and ran great, 2 primes and it was started.

SOme trucks fire right away, and run great in 15 seconds, others can take forever to start, and miss for 5-10 minutes before finally clearing all the air out.

Well this is turning out to be a real bummer of a weekend. I checked the lift pump and it is good. I took all injectors back out and checked the install, everthing was ok. However I noticed where I had pushed in the new injectors they had marred and dinged the surface of the connector tube because I had not pulled it out far enough. Don't know if that is a big deal?

I put everything back together and still only fires on etha. This time I drove it down the road for a mile or so and the smoke never cleared up, it also ran real clunky. It was almost at operating temparature when I got back, when I shut it off it would not restart. I am going to put old injectors back in now and see what happens.

Well folks old injectors are back in (I'm getting fast at this):D and she fired up and ran like a charm. Is it possible one or more of the new 275's are bad? Well at least she's running again.

Thanks for all the help

Paul

If you damaged the connector tube tips, that is a big deal. Any small burr could cause an internal fuel leak and make for poor running. If you put your original injectors back in now, you will likely have the same problem. You may have to get some new tubes.
