Hello All,

I am seriously contemplating having 275 injectors installed after

talking to a knowledgable diesel technician. Initially I will probably

only have the injectors and then later go with a mild box such

as the EZ. I would love to hear comments from the membership

on the pros and cons of 275's such as:

EGT's

Fuel efficiency

Smooth running

Power increase (worth the investment?)

Increased smoke

Increased noise

Effect on power output throughout the power curve/rpm range

All comments will be wellcome.

By the way I have a bone stock 2001 Auto 3. 55 Quadcab

Thanks,

Doug

It a nice mild upgrade

My wife truck is setup that way, she actual has a comp but we have not tapped the wire as the transmission an auto. She runs with just the 275 and the box off most of the time.

Personally i would go with the ez first and then the 275's. If you put the 275's in first you may get over boost codes and the engine will derate itself unless you get some kind of boost fooler.

275,s

The combo of the 275,s and the EZ work excellent. I would install the 275,s first and if needed install the EZ. You will not get a overboost code if you do not disable the wastegate. I was impressed with the drivability and towing when I installed the 275,s . The fuel economy and less EGT,s were a suprise. (higher and lower) Check with Piers for prices on 275,s The first set I got came from a big shop in the midwest (they host a truck and tractor pull) and they were 2X the cost of the ones I got from Piers. I do not mind paying a fair price but that was a bit much!

Hey Eric the bomb dealer hows it goin? Is that PE4200 working ok?

only other thing to think about is if your auto trans or clutch will take more power!

Fuzzybear is running DD3's with a PS boost module and no chip with a stock auto says he is not having any trouble??

I have seen some have clutchs slip with just the EZ but not sure how many miles they have had on the clutch at the time the EZ was installed? and others clutchs have no problem with a the combo you are intersted in ?

Good luck!

Decent upgrade

I just installed 275s and have the following comments.

The injectors are an easy swap. Get the .pdf file that was circulating here a while back and follow it. There are no suprises. It is difficult to get at the #6 injector and line but not impossible. I did not need any custom made tools but I did buy a cheap set of shorty wrenches from Wal Mart which helped. It took me less than 2 hours start to finish.

Mileage will improve. I drove from Conroe TX to Galveston TX and back the next day. Filled up the tank at the Flying J on I-45 near Airtex on the way down then topped it off on the way back using the same pump. I calculated over 20 MPG but I don't know the exact tenths at the moment. I gained 1-2 MPG! :p

As for smoke, you will notice a little more hazing during acceleration but not anything that is bothersome to other drivers. In fact for the first 3-5 seconds or so while the turbo is spooling up the smoke is barely noticeable, and when the turbo is up to speed building boost, there is no smoke unless you're at full throttle, which is still not that noticeable. With my Edge "3-Light" fueling module on level 3, then I get a nice dark cloud until the boost builds then just a haze. Nowhere near enough smoke to attract attention to yourself if there are no fueling boxes turned on.

The power increase is very noticeable throughout the RPM range, especially from, say, 1,600 to 2,400 RPM. Much more torque and it is smooooooooth power. No sudden rushes, surges, etc. Even the upper RPMs feel stronger. The engine sounds the same as it did with the stock injectors, is just as smooth if not smoother at idle and throughout the RPM range.

I'm very happy with the 275s, and since I have the Edge box I have no desire to go to bigger injectors at this time. I'm still on my stock clutch at 42,000 miles but it does tend to slip in 5th when the boost comes on strong with the box on level 3 (high). My clutch was slipping at times during the colder winter months too with the stock injectors and level 3 due to the increased air density and more efficient intercooler with the cold air.

Hope that helps!!

I'll agree with all the above. I installed mine about 9 months ago. Now I'm eyeing those bigger injectors called something "mental" or "mega". But I do like the 275's. Maybe I should just bite the bullet and get an Edge box. But I swore I'd never want one. Whats my problem?

Ncostello I think your problem is you are rounding the corner from hobby to obsession in the power dept. I think they will call you an addict I know I am:D and pretty happy about it.

P. S. 275's are very nice I started with them they are every thing stated above just not enough hp for the junky.

275's went in Friday for me.

I do enjoy working on this truck. I have the edge Box on the lowest setting but tryed it out on the 2nd for a while.

Oh man I've got it bad... Now I'm wondering about DDII's. It won't ever end I know myself to well. I just have got to get the transmission work done before all %&!! breaks loose!

Dont worry, the bug will get worse and worse! You will want more power always! Forget the injectors, just run a 1/4" line directly into the head, it'll give new meaning to the word injector. :D :D :D

Yea I know Jeff isn't it Jrandol

I've been following your posts and LMAO! Also talked to Mike Lockner about your injector install when I drove his truck... Sounds like I'm following you down the smoky trail to... ..... where does this go anyway???

Mikes truck is an animal to say the least! unfortunately that day I was unable to ride in his rig post stage 3 injectors, to busy still trying to get my injectors all finished up. Where does this smoky trail go you ask??? Well lets see..... for starters your back pocket gets alot lighter, and somehow your wife is less friendly when you are trying to explain that charge on the debit card for bombs, smoke makes you giddy, and you crave diesel fumes. Thats for starters... ... . Oh this CTD stuff is fun

I know that Wife part well!

Funny story though, Saturday night coming home from Greeley Independence stampede a 1500 chevy with a load of Cowboys were taunting me to race. With the wife and Kid in the truck I just ignored it.

The wife brings it up that he sure is persistent. . ( It's been a few mile down the road by now) She finally says I should let him have it... . Surprised the crap out of me!

Starting at 55 I waxed his butt so bad it wasn't even funny, the 9 year old giggled for miles. "I've corrupted the whole family".

Now I know my truck is a mere infant in the power department but it sure was fun!

Those Chevy boys never learn! Glad to hear you got the family all corrupted. Get your wife helping you with the little one when you do maintence on the truck and hey you just might have a crew put together that you can take to Muncie next year with your 600+ hp Cummins!! Oo. Oo. "Uh yeah honey... ... . its great family time..... uh yeah... . thats it! Lil Junior here needs to see how you install a set of twins in the ole dodge. You know its a life long skill right honey?"

Dont mind me, I spent to much time in the sun today. :D :D

BTW, how was the Stampeded jjohn? Kinda wierd that I live right here in the city of the Stampede and yet somehow we never go.

It was good...

Watched a friend's child in the Dinner play House "Oklahoma" production.

I know what you mean though I grew up In Greeley and have only been there maybe three times.

Thanks much for all the helpful replies. Just a couple more questions. I hear some say that there is the possibility of setting a code with just the 275's. I wonder how likely this is? Also some

seem to indicate that there is a distinct feeling of increased power

while some say that it is not very noticeable. I wonder if anyone

has had the opportunity to dyno their truck before and after the

installation of 275's (without a box). What is a reasonable

hp/torque gain to expect with this installation? I'm not towing

anything at this time. Right now I'm in between TT's. My Mallard

was not enough trailer and I can't afford a 30ft Sunnybrook yet.

When I finally do get the new trailer it will probably have a

dry weight of about 8,000#. With this trailer, the 275's and

conservative driving habits should I be okay transmission wise?

I definitely cannot afford the $3500+ for a built transmission at

this time. Thanks again for all the good info.

*GASP* Say it aint so! That will never happen to ME!:D

Ho Hum. I seem to remember 275's some time ago in my past. I think around 3 injector sets ago. Maybe 4. ;)
