help - need exhaust fitting...

Air Filter Systems

Have a question for you all, I have a 2001. 5, 2500 with auto. I put in the big AFE filter, have gages and a 4" Banks S/S exhaust. Do not have the money for a DTT transmission, so I will not go with a EZ. . BUT can I go with 275 injectors or DD1's? and what is the difference? will my transmission hold up? Just what can I put on that will not slip my transmission? Thanks for all the help. . The TDR has been great and I have been extremely lucky to meet some of the greatest people on here.

You might be ok with the injectors but if i was in your shoes i would get the ez because it will do a little more for you and then after transmission upgrade i would go with the injectors. I've been driving my truck for a while with the stoock auto for about 70000 miles but i can slip it a will. So drive iteasy until you get some speed and then hammer it empty.

With the 275's your mileage should increase. You won't have to keep an eye onthe egt gauge while towing either. The trans should hold the extra power. I would get the ez after the trans work. :D

Your transmission will last the longest if you favor injectors over a box. You can also go a little more on the power with injectors, because they are smooth, and don't "hit" like the boxes do.

If it's going to be a while until you upgrade the trans, I would get some Mach 1 or Mach 1. 5 EDM injectors and a cheapo boost fooler (~$110). The money you save on the boost fooler will more than offset the cost of the EDM injectors (over a DD1 or DD2), and you won't have any heat issues.

The Mach 1 injects are $500 for 60hp. Boost fooler brings the tab to $600.

If you went with a cheap box like the Edge EZ, it would add abot 40 peak hp, give you more timing clatter, and be tougher on yoru transmission, all for around $500.

Not to mention GREAT mileage with the small EDMs.....

I am running an ez with 275s in an 01 with a stock auto. The ez(on the middle setting) has been on for 70k the 275s a little over 10k (total 87k). I have not had any trouble with the stock transmission. At least yet. I do try to be careful with it though. I dont race it or do any wot takeoffs. I have towed with it through the mountains here but nothing over 5k since the 275's. I think if you are careful you wont have a problem. Though shortened transmission life is almost a certainity how much who knows but if you tow heavy or are not careful with it probably a lot shorter. I talked to a well known transmission vendor that we all know about and was told at this point don't worry about it until it becomes a problem then do a good rebuild on the entire thing not just the vb and tc. Was told it may run a long time and it may not just depends on too many factors so might as well get as much as you can out of what you already paid for it when you bought the truck and when it starts slipping fix it right.
