OK,

Here is my situation: I currently have a DD TT box and Bully Dog 2 injectors on my truck ( Along with other stuff, see sig) I have very strong power and excelent driveability. HOWEVER, I do drive a bunch and at fair amount @ altitude and the smoke is not so easy to control up there. Maximum mileage is also a consideration. I only tow about 8,500lbs for about 5% of total annual mileage (50K). Is any one running the Comp Box /275 combo? like it? Mileage? Oh yes, LSMITH I am still on the fence about selling my DD TT box. Will let you know if I do.

I would go with DD2's and a Comp Box

DD2's don't smoke much more than 275's

and yes BD2's do smoke more than DD2's (I am kicking myself for going BD)

LOL, figures I would be the first to see this. I can tell you about DD1's, mileage if anything stayed the same as there certainly wasn't any gain in economy. Add a VA or an EZ and mileage goes up just slightly, maybe . 5-1 MPG, and power goes WAY up. They will throw a pretty good cloud too if it tromped at low boost with a box on, no box = no smoke with DD1's. I would probably throw a DD UFM on it with the BD2's and see what the smoke is like with that set pretty conservatively like 1-1 or 2-1. As far as injectors go the 275's and DD2's that I have seen without a box in the equation are really close smoke-wise, they smoke less than anything else I have seen other than stock. Maybe you should drop the stock injectors back in and see how it runs with a UFM and stock injectors, I think you would actually have more power than you do now. Those BD2's should be pretty easy to move if you decide to go to another injector anyway. Sorry for the ramble, hope it helps.

I'd estimate both combos are within 10hp of each other. With that estimate, my vote is the step 2's and the TTPM. Why? Because if you can make darn near the same power without tapping into the injection pump wire, that would be the best since your 2's and TTPM aren't making the injection pump work any harder. The Comp will make the pump work harder and you're still going to get the same smoke.

I really don't see any fuel mileage advantage of one over the other either, but I will say fueling boxes generally don't get better mileage.

if not tapping the injection pump wire

will only net a 10 HP reduction.

By all means go with Mike R's recommendation

I sure will ;)

With the Comp you can adjust both the power and the smoke. I am using the DDIII's and a PE Comp (also a PDR Modified HX35 Turbo). I carry a Lance Camper at about 4000 lbs. and set the Comp at level 2 power, level 1 smoke. I go up and down any freeway or highway grade with cruise control at speed, i. e. whatever speed you set it at above peak torque rpm. It don't slow down! No smoke. It smokes wonderfully at level 5/5, but what I'm trying to say is the Comp has enough flexibility to tailor the performance to what you want. To be honest, if I hammer it from a full stop, I get a puff of black smoke, but not much. Once the turbo kicks in, no smoke, just speed - that is, unless you want smoke. In normal (ha!) every day driving, no smoke. Of course your experience may differ dependent on your right foot. Mileage? I'm actually getting better mileage, but that's just icing on the cake.

I have an Ez box now,I think I will pull the trigger and order DDIIs from piers today. nice price and no core exchange, any thoughts on this set up? power?smoke?

task125, that combo is one of the most poular and it flat runs. You will need to address the transmission to run with the EZ and the DD2's or it will DIE. You can get away with just the DD2's and use the EZ as a boost module, but both is too much. Get a VB put in, and a transmission temp guage for now. The TC can be done later if you can't spring the cash now.

Thanks for the reply.

I Talked to scott from massdiesel,He said to install injectors before i bring the truck to him,so he can adjust trans with this setup. how hard is it to install injectors?

Injectors are a piece of cake. The instructions from DD are good. Get the tools together that are listed in the instructions, follow them and you are home free. 3 hours or less if you are mechanically inclined at all. Scott is right, the transmission needs to be set up with the power you are going to want to use. I have heard nothing but good about Scott and his partner, you are in good hands.

LSMITH

I think I will install them myself,it does not sound to bad.

now I just have to scrap up the rest of the cash for massdiesel.

thanks again, mike
