Guys I have a stock 2k diesel dodge dually automatic early 2 k model with both crank and cam sensor, anyway it has 13 psi lift pump pressure and today it just started to jerk like your cutting the key off, and then dies then it will coast nearly to a stop and start running again, I pulled the codes and it reads ( p 1690 Fuel INjection pump ckp sensor does not agree with ECM CKP sensor) does this sound like the VP 44 is going bad? it has done this 2 times in the past 2 days when it gets hot like in 30 miles of driving, I can baby it back home luckly! anyway I hope some one can help? truck has 160 k miles and as far as I know has original vp pump, I have owned truck for 3 years and 40k miles. no other codes exist though! HELP

a p1690 code sounds like the VP44 in on it's way out, replace the VP44, and lift pump, i would highly reccomend a fuel pressure gauge to kep an eye on your fuel pressure so that you can avoid this problem again, and also add a aux. lift pump to help the injection pump out, the FASS is a good setup, and it ensures good fuel flow and psi, it removes the entrained air in the fuel, and filters it down to 2 microns. good luck with your problems.

I would look into the RASP mechanical pump nice setup ,not sure if it's engineered for the 2nd genners check the web site. The problem with the FASS the brushes wear out and you are screwed. For that amount of money it should be a brushless unit. The mechanical is great because if the engine is turning the pump is working.

I have always had a fuel pressure gauge on it in the 3 years I have drove it, always had 10-12 wot and 15 at idle, I have actually just put on a new lift pump late last year, so its not because its had low pressure! truck will start right up and runs great until like 30min or 30 miles and then it might miss and then get erratic running and you have to baby it back home until it cools down a bit , I have cleaned the battery connections and related wiring etc, I wonder if since its got a cam sensor and crank that the cam sensor went bad? people say how to check the vp44 wiring around it but this one starts and runs the best until it gets hot! any answers on that note?

Have you tried resetting the APPS yet? It may be something as simple as that since it cuts out and then comes back. I personally would try resetting it before going into replacing everything else. You are very lucky if that is the original VP at 160k on the otherhand. You can reset the APPS by unhooking your batteries and then turning on your ignition and letting the truck set over night like that. Then shut the ignition off and hook your batteries back up. Then get back in the truck and turn the key to the run position... not start... and slowly push the accelerator to the floor and slowly let it back off. I hope this helps but be prepared to bite the bullet for the VP and you will feel better if you have to.

OK I will try that too! I cleared the codes and let it run for 30 min and it started doing the miss thing again and check engine light came on and read 1689 code but no 1690 code or no other codes! but truck would die and run erractic! I guess the pump is shot? funny that in the past 45k miles it has never had low LP pressure though!
