My neighbor is a mechanic at a local auto-body shop. Body man called Jim over to show him the door on a 03 that was recently hit. Apparently, the drain holes at the bottom of the doors are not the lowest point of the door. Road crap and salt are settling at the lowest part of the door (along the seam) and starting to rust on the untreated metal inside the door.

Do you know if places like Ziebart rust proof the inside of the doors. Would it be better to insert some small straws up the drain plugs and spray some undercoating in the interior of the doors to prevent this road crap from coming up the holes and rusting the doors?

You could spray used motor oil into the doors... . works well on the heavly salted roads of MI.

I watched guys pour diesel fuel all over equipment to give them a shine.

I don't know if I would enjoy the motor oil smell in the interior of the truck. I think I will stay with the vanilla

Due to the excessive use of road salt in NorthWestern Ohio, I always have my vehicles rustproofed at Ziebart. When my 1996 was 6 years old, the driver's door started to rust at the bottom skin lap. They corrected it in a very professional manner during the annual inspection. Ziebart rustproofing material has a petroleum base. That's why it's so great. Make sure they do the frame, springs, axles, etc. though. I've had to send them back under my trucks several times to get the jobs done right. If you don't watch them, they will only spray the body parts. Lastly, if you keep up with the annual inspections, they will stand behind their warranty. The annual inspections cost me $25, but that includes touch up when needed.
