2nd Dodge/Cummins? 3rd - more?

Realizing that the Mercedes part of MDC makes decent diesels of their own - and is a rather cut-throat bunch who would cheerfully dump Cummins in a heartbeat - IF it wasn't for the Cummins brand loyalty group of truck buyers who has kept the company in the black as competitors bleed red ink - how many here are on their 2nd or 3rd Dodge/Cummins?



I suspect that the single, greatest reason we continue to see that "Cummins" nameplate on the Dodge truck is purely due to the above stated brand loyalty and reputation the Cummins has built for DC/MDC over the years since '89 - and that even at that, the Mercedes segment of the company will steadily and stealthily work at easing Cummins out of the picture as they slowly introduce more Mercedes diesels into their product lineup...

I agree with you. OH PLEASE DODGE DUMP CUMMINS!! ( then TOYOTA put the 6. 7 CTD in your truck) What a glorious day that would be.

Yep, I have a 2000 CQ Auto 4X4, and I had a '89 Auto 4X4 LE (Wrecked it ) After I wrecked the 89, I had a Dodge Sprit (What a POS!!! ) and a 94 Chevy K1500 WorkTruck, with a 4. 3 V6. Not a bad ride, a little short in the HP department and had a slight drinking (gas) problem. Then I got the 2000, So Much Way Better Oo. Torque, HP and 20MPG too. More reliability, Excpet that VP44 and the Carter lift pump, soon to be replaced by a GDP lift pump. If Cummins moves out of Dodge, I will go were they go Moose00

When my Dodge (with a Cummins) dies I will buy another Dodge. I don't care what motor is in it. Don't get me wrong I love my Cummins in my Dodge, but I would have bought the truck if it had a Cat, Detroit or whatever it came with. I wanted a diesel and it had to be a Dodge.

With Diamler-Benz running the show I am sure they will go with what is best. They own Frieghtliner and most of those I see hauling steel to the shop have Cummins in them. I am a Dodge man to the bone. My wife drives a Jeep as well. Of course it doesn't hurt that my Dad retired from Dodge and I get that nice little discount.

I don't see DC getting rid of Cummins anytime soon. As we all see with the forums that we belong too, there is a HUGE following for this motor/truck combo. -Jason

Previous Dodge had the V-10. Good motor, but it's no Cummins. Besides, they killed off the V-10 (truck engine version -- the Viper engine remains). I would follow the Cummins whereever it goes.

None of the other brands make a truck I want, regardless of engine or trans. I like the Quad Cab Long Box combo. It's just right.

I bought my first Dodge/Cummins in 1994 and it was a year-old '93 model. I loved that truck, but HAD to have a extra-cab when they came out so I traded it for my 1996. I wanted a flatbed truck, so I bought a 1998, then needed an additional work truck for our company, so I sold it to the company, installed a service body and bought a 1998 3500 quad-cab. When the real 4-door cab version came out, I wanted one of them, so I sold that 1998 and bought my 2003. I am all-around happiest with the 2003, but have loved all the trucks except for the 1998 quad cab because it lacked 4x4 (sat too low and mushy ride). I have been THRILLED with the Cummins engine, especially the "P-pump" version and the "common rail" version. I am also a fan of the "first generation" truck's engine, but the quality/comfort of the cabs has definately improved since then. Thankfully, I have been able to avoid the "VP" pump equipped engines, although I would rather have one of those than some other manufacturers' engine.

I do not think I would follow the Cummins to another brand if it were not as good of a truck as the Dodge. The "ricers" do nothing for me with their weak springs, cheesie independent suspension front ends and flimsey frames. I would consider a Ford with a Cummins, but would rather have it in a Dodge, given the choice. I would NOT have a "V" engine design, so if no REAL "pickup" was available with the Cummins, I would buy a medium truck like a Freightliner or F650. If the Dodge were available with an inline 6 Mercedes engine, it would probably be a good alternative, but I still prefer the Cummins.
