2nd gear band replacement

Does anyone know if it is possible to slip a new 2nd gear band in through the bottom of the 48re just by pulling the pan and valve body, without having to remove it from the truck?



I do realize this would just be a band aid. I just don't have the money to get the transmission rebuilt let alone buy a new one.

I assume your talking the front band. If I recall the strut mounts will not clear the case on the top side. Worst case is you pull the valve body and try it, if it doesn't work pull the trans, pump, and install it the right way. It is not that big of a job as the worst part is getting it on the ground.

If your handy at all you should be able to do it. Keep things clean, go slow, and pay attention to the end play before and after to make sure the thrust bearings are in place.

No it can't be done that way. Why do you want to change it, whats your transmission doing?

Yes, it is the front band. I was afraid you would say that. i will have to try a different approach. Thanks
