Buddy of mine just picked up an 01, 3500, 4x4 with a six speed yesterday. Runs real nice except one thing. 2nd gear grinds every time you try to engage it from a stop. If you put it in any other gear first, then into 2nd, no grind. But once you let the clutch out then put it back in, if you attempt to go into 2nd before selecting another gear first... Grind. Other than this, transmission feels nice considering how new. Anyone have any ideas? Trying to decide if this will get better as it breaks in of if this needs to be dealt with now. On my y2k, gears never grinded like this, it was just a bit tight for 5k or so. Thanks for any info. This is pretty inconvenient considering you start out in 2nd every time.

More often, 3rd is the one that grinds #ad

Take it in for warranty repair. NV forgot whatever synchro parts they usually leave out of 3rd. Don't wait until they try to say you hurt it because you can't drive. Also be prepared to wait several days to a week for a replacement transmission.

Everything on mine was fine until the first night that it dropped below 40 degrees mine would grind going to 3rd for the first 10 to 15 miles then work fine the rest of the day. Took it to a real 5 star dealer, they ordered the transmission which came in two days. Started on it at 8AM called and said it was done at 4PM. Also gave me a new 6 speed loaner for the day!! Pete

Oh yeah, the new transmission is perfect!!
