Hello all, just picked up my new to me 03 3500 dually 4x4 a couple weeks ago!!! It's the standard output and has the NV4500HD. Loving the truck so far and can't wait to tow my trail rig up to Hollister in a few weeks:D

Anyway, one thing I have noticed is when in 2nd gear, if I am barely on the throttle and moving under 15 or so mph I get a gear grinding or chatter type of noise. Only when I barely touch the accelerator, if I give it more there is no noise but if I just touch it I get the noise. Doesn't happen in 1st or 3rd through 5th, just 2nd.

The transmission shifts just fine and makes no noise at all under load or at any speed.

If I'm understanding how you describe the noise, mine does basically the same thing... as have all of the standard transmission's I've had. Mine mostly does it when I'm in a slightly higher gear than I ought to be coming out of idle speed. I don't hear any actual gear grinding noises though, like when you miss a shift.

Are you sure it's coming from the transmission and not the engine? I can make my engine make some truly awful noises in higher gears with very light throttle (read: lugging the engine).

No it's definately not the engine lugging... It is an actual gear grinding noise such as missing a shift but at a lower volume but it's still pretty loud. Like I said if I accelerate harder when going into 2nd the noise is not there. I dunno, I'm not going to worry about it, if the transmission dies it's time for a 5600:D
