Yeah, just a tad more smoke. A tad more in terms of performance also. Nothing amazing though. Did the switch myself years ago. :)

i also picked up a hx35 to replace my hy what differences are there in hooking it up? hy has a steel boost tube hx has a waste gate w/rubber hose. do I replace wastegate or elbow?

thank's,

marc

All the same far as install, Be sure to put in the bass elbow that came with your Comp or DD UFM. And a set of F1 Diesel injectors :-laf :-laf

The HX Waste gate tube can accept a bolt for plugging.

With my Piers Boost bolt and my HY Waste gate 100% closed (TIGHT TB) I have been very close to 50 # with 3D TC locked and Comp on 5x5 and WOT ... of course.....

I think I must get a Higher reading from my head bolt then what people report from the air horns beacuse I have yet to see 50# boost claims with the HY ... ... ... if this is true its possible that my 60# gauge may be pegged with the HX,,,,,,, But that just dont sound right to me ..... Dont that seem Extreamly high ???? sounds like a head gasket divorce to me ... . I may not plug it all the way and just get a boost Elbow

I dont want a bunch of lag but I like smoke ... ... ...

and the fact of cooler EGT's

and the Price Tag

DM

I dont know whats going on with it I ended up removing the Turn Buckle and just running it like that and It will still FLY past 35# NO Biggie ... . but I think my gauge or some thing must be bad because these boost #'s just dont add up. I Swear that is the reading i have gotten with my Mecanical Diprocol...

Anyway ..... I think I will like More smoke ... ... ... for $150 its my best bet

I have been on about 6-7 HY35 to a HX35 Threads in the archives and there are mixed opinions HOW MUCH MORE LAG are we talking here anyway . and Everyone pushes the PDR HX35 or 40 or B-1 or this or that :> you know TDR... ... . aint it great :>

But like I said for $150... ... ... ... . Hp gain? TQ Gain ? Smoke GAin ? LAG GAIN ?

I will report the best I can ... . I dont have a dyno in my garage or anything :>

But I think I can vouch for the Lag and smoke Areas

And I thought that most of the LAg in our trucks was from the ECm being programed to not send the power threw the drive train with out the truck moving (MOMENTUM) ... can the spool up time account for 100% of the SLOW starts (LAG) that these trucks have ... . or is it a combination... ... ?

?

1 hr and counting ... . till install

Cant Wait !!!!!!!

Catcher will be here Thursday Also ... ... ...

Then Im Done For GOOD !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know I have said that a million times... . LOL

I have a buddy that picked up almost 40 hp over his hy but he had dd4's... . you are very lucky you didnt grenade your HY running that high boost... After 35 lbs. . more boost from an HY35 doesnt do squat except tear stuff up. You will hardly notice any more lag from an HX (think manual truck)

Good luck with it...

hy to HX

I did it on my 02 , IMO do your self a favor and have PIERS do their mod on it. when I installed the PIERS hx 35 with a 12 cm housing I would say it was about the same or a little quicker than stock. That was the first mod right after guages that I did.

Well just got done and out of the shower... ... thats right. . 6 hours ... . LOL

Took over an hour to get the old turbo off ... ... .

then got home and saw about a quart of oil on the concreate... ...

leaking from the oil return line ... .

I looked at my HY and sure enough 1/2 of the gasket was still on the turbo ...

Had to remove Oil Filter to take Oil return line off from motor ...

I COULD NOT GET THE STINKING 1/2 gasket off the line that stuff was on there ... . had to wire wheel it...

Went to advanced and got a roll of High temp make a gasket stuff and some high temp slicone... . I cut the gasket to size (about 45 mins) and then put all back together ... and tightened the crap out of it...

Sence the oil filter was off and I knew I was low on oil because it was all over the undercarage of the truck ... . I went ahead and changed the oil and filter... .

then went on another test drive then quicky got out and tightend the bolts when everything was nice and hot (big burn on my hand still hurts !!!!!!!) ... Im pretty sure Im GOOD... whit it not leaking

VERDICT ... .

Take note I had a STOCK HY35 and I think its a 9 Cm Housing (stock)

I went to

a HX35W with a 21 Cm Ext Housing and is non waste gated

One word sums it up... ...

WOWZERS

A little more smoke... HAHAAHAAHHA how about a trail threw 3rd gear

A little less pyro ... HAHAHAH how about the other way under WOT in Lockup on 5x5 it quickly goes to 1200* and it dont go past it .....

MORE BOOST ??????... ... NO ! LESS BOOST I can spool her up nicely but I never Hit more than 35 #

More Turbo sound ???..... I would say NO it has a way diffrent tone but its really not louder.

so there it is ... .

if the turbo is the only change, power gains will come from less heat at higher boost. better flow at higher rpm so the intake charge won't be so hot. the hx35 up to 35psi is awesome, sounds like you have a great combination!

Power is diffrent ... .

Hardly no gain if any (POSSIBLE LOSS) durring acelleration ... . WOT 5x5 but when the 40 comes up on the MPH gauge it launches you forward as the smoke disapates till about 20 PSI your doing about 80 never really went over that so far.....

the pyro is alot hotter Like I said it steadly rises to 1200* but it never goes over it .....

Set back? I would say acceleration up to 40 MPH Compared to my HY ... But compared to A Complelty stock truck the Acceleration is still MAD !

With Comp on 3x3 the aceleartion suffers more as it seems the turbo will not spool up very fast ..... With comp off I would say the HY was way more peppyer ... ... but the HY would just keep boosting it would never top out ..... I have been close to 50# ... . I dont think my new set up will reach that point for a long long time.

Im courious if hitting 1200* on a daily basis will harm anything ?

If your towing in the low end dont do the 21Cm Housing on the HX on a 01-02 Auto

If your not towing very much and its just a daily driver ... . and you like smoke and you like higher speeds do it !

Ill sum it up ...

You know how your HY spools up to 40 MPH right ... . you know the set you back in your seat fealing ..... Switch to a hx W a 21Cm Housing and where the HY toped out the HX is just starting to set you back and has Almost endless Air for the normal Bomber ... Note : its not a DOG on the low end its just not as peppy as the HY .

I guess i found out how to get 24V smoke the cheapest way ... ... Tuner & a 21 CM Ext housing . I would say my smoke has increased by about 900% No lie.

Now for the bottom end ... . well... ... ...

The Catcher will be here tomarrow

Hopefully my Pyro dont hit the red with the catcher before the Turbo Spools up good .

I really have no idea what to exspect ?

Where the heck did you find an HX with a 21cm housing? I thought 12 was the largest you could go with an HX? The CaTCHer should really help your spool and low end. And you can smoke in neutral... :-laf
