Hey guys, I have an idea that I am getting more and more serious about. Currently I am still researching costs, but is somthing I will eventually do anyways. My thought is to put an entire 2nd gen driveline (consisting of both axles, motor, transfer case, trans, rad and intercooler) into my 80's crew. My goal is to also eventually have 400+ horsepower.
I have two questions.
1) What is the best year to base my prodject off of? Is there a certain year that was the least problem prone? Easyest for bombing the engine?
2) I am wanting a NV5600 trans. If I have a NV4500 with the doner driveline and want to put in a 5600, what would have to be changed? Would I be beter off just getting a 5600/bellhousing/clutch assembly and bolt that to the block? Would that even work?
Any help would be much appreciated as would any additional thoughts/ comments.

Edit. In case this makes a differance, I have decided on a 12V versus a 24V as I want to stay as far away from computer control as possible, and as I have been told, the 2nd gen 12V's are no more computer controlled than a 1st gen 12V.
