Third Gen uses a "Y" link style steering linkage whereas the 2nd Gen uses a straight link with the steering link connected directly to the main link.

Why the change?

If my memory is right, there was only one year of the second gens that had the tie rods setup that way.

I believe the Y setup is more forgiving of bump steer, but at the expense of poor everything else.

The 98-99 T-style looks stouter. I bought the parts and am installing them on my 04.

I'll do an install article. It's already been done... that's how I got the idea.

I did it on my 97. They are much larger. Never heard of it on the 3rd gen but why not if it has been done it may be a good mod for you guys too.

I figure running a heavy plow two seasons and the heavy 35" Toyos, at 60,000 I have some uneven tire wear. I'm installing a brand new 98 linkage setup and a Defiant steering box support.

Here is a third gen with the 98 steering linkage. .

Get an alignment

Then I'll reinstall the Carli Dual Stabilizers with the new Radflo nitrogen shocks.
