2nd Gen Tires, Wheels, and Lifts

OK, I have spent hours, scratch that, days, reading posts on tires, wheels and lifts.



I have a 1996 4x4 Long Bed. I thought I'd like to put 17x9 inch Eagle 102's on it that carry BFG 315R70/17's. These wheels have a 5 inch backspace, which is less than I'd like but my options appear limited. It seems like some 2nd gen trucks like them while others say no way.



I was planning on going with the D25 springs, DT Control Arms, and a DT Track Bar... . the more I read the more I feel this isn't enough.



Are there differences in front axles between the 2nd gens?



How about Fender linings? Are they different on the later 2nd Gens?



There are so many threads on this. It would be great if we could make this the end all and put it in the FAQ and get it to bed.

on my 2002 i have stock alloys, D25 coils, 315, and a DT trac bar. I do have rub on the lower control arms but not enough to care about. sounds like you should have an awesome front end built for your self. you should change your shocks also. thats my next change, doesnt take me much to find the tops of them over speed humps or plow furrows. yes there are front axle differences, i dont have a vaccum disconnect, its a bummer because my front axle is constantly turning causing me to get a vib in the front end at certain speeds, this shouldnt be a concern for you though.

Hi Tepid,



I believe more backspace sucks the wheels more into the truck. Therefore, the same or less backspace will make the rims stick out. I'm not fond of the look either.



That being said, nice truck you got there!

I stand corrected I'm glad you were not going for the lowrider look lol. I had a hard time finding anything with the right backspacing other than custom.
