Hey guys, i was just wondering what's the worst that would happen if i put some second gen rims on my truck? The Dana 80 hub was a little big for my rims, so i had to bore out the rim a bit, and i have a line on some steel chromed factory rims from a second gen that had a d80 in it for $150 plus shipping and I'm tempted to grab em, but i'm just wondering if i can even use them on my front axle? Pretty much all the weight would be riding on the lugs wouldn't it? Should i worry? My buddy that did all the welding and stuff to get the rear in my truck said i should get a set of wheels designed for that rear... i duno if i want to run two different styles of rims though lol ... what about offset, would the offset be different and screw up the steering? And most importantly, will i be considered a "2nd gen wannabe" ? If so forget it, tha deal is off! lol

Thanks guys,

Carl

The first gen wheels IIRC are "netural", they are centered with no offset. The second gen wheels are offset several inches from center so that if you use them on a first gen (they will fit) your track spaceing will be shorter. I call this a negative offset, the wheel is closer to the frame. Which means the truck will be less stable in side to side manuvers. Your front hubs (if 4x4) will stick out farther and more chance of being hit by rock, etc.

I've seen the combo and to me it looks funny.

The 16x6. 5 steel chrome wheels will fit. I run the 16x8 2nd gen aluminum wheels with a 2" spacer/adapter on the front to get the correct offset and look. I changed my 1/2 studs to 9/16 so I could use the stock 2nd gen nuts and caps; used a 4" holesaw to cut out the center of the caps.

There some pictures out there of my truck... ... ... somewhere.
