Here's another 2nd Gen truck (99 Ram 2500) that won't start. Mileage is 190,000. Came out this morning, after driving normally yesterday, and it never would start at all.

No codes set. Check Engine light is OFF.

I have a FASS fuel system (less than 2 years old), so don't really suspect that, but have done fuel flow tests anyway. Bumping the starter pumps at least 1/2 gallon of fuel. Fuel pressure at the VP44 is 10-15.

I have had this truck since 2000. Bought it with about 18,000 miles. I have not replaced the injection pump, so assume it is original on the truck.

Bought some diesel down on Texas border last weekend, and suspected possible contaminated fuel. Changed FASS fuel filter (3-4 months old) just in case. No difference.

Loosened #1 injector line, cranked engine and got NO fuel coming out. (got a bad feeling about this)

Any more diagnostics I should do before concluding the VP44 has died? I expected to see a code if the pump failed.

Do you have an OEM svc manual? Also, Cummins makes a manual for the electronics on the ISB. Mine are packed while house being renovated. Sonds like the VP44 man not be getting power... check fuses... check connectors. If you are near a Cummins shop, they can perform a diagnostics for about $100.

See if you are getting fuel to the vp44 by cracking the fuel supply line banjo. You can also check to see if you are getting fuel to filter (original, if you are still using it).

No problem with fuel flow from the FASS fuel pump system, and the VP44 does have proper voltage to it.

We have now determined that the VP44 is failed. Probably the computer. Pity it only lasted 10 years and 190,000 miles. :)

Have ordered a VP44 from Blue Chip. Now we wait.
