Rear suspension mods are needed, and you'd have to run a slick (modified) class. you also have a split drivshaft to deal with which could get ugly when you start to hook well. You'd almost be better to cut it down to a short bed length to run a one piece DS. while your cutting you might as well do the four link.
2wd trucks can run slicks in DHRA pro street and be legal. As far as being competitive with a 2wd platform... you sure can. Ask Ted Kobi, he goes by ob1kobi here. Runs a 2500 2wd in DHRA PSS. Oo.
