I'm in the middle of converting my 89 CTD crewcab from 2wd to 4wd. I've got the springs in, dana 60 in and am getting all the new bearings and brakes on the 60. I'm going to be pulling the 727 auto and installing a 2wd Getrag and a divorced 205. The trans hump seems quite a bit narrower on the 2wd body. I'm thinking about running the 205 cable operated so I can center mount the 4wd shifter and not modify the body. I've seen some cable set-ups for extreme off-road and am wondering if that's a better option. Thanks for your thoughts! Oo.

why not keep the 727 and get a 205 from another dodge truck?

or do you need the overdrive with possibly lower gears now.

I wish I saw this a few weeks earlier, I just cut up a cab that had the 4wd floor. I scrapped the floor, but kept the club cab section in case someone wants to build a conversion.

I'm thinking I like the cable operated twin stick design for the 205. Advance adapters has a really cool one for their atlas t-case, I may just modify that design for mine. With the cable shift I can put it anywhere and I've seen them hold up well 4 wheeling.

I'm taking out the auto because I want the overdrive plus trucks with auto transmissions just seem wrong to me. I need a divorced t-case because both trans are 2wd.

Also, I don't want to cut the floor if I don't have to because I've coated it with bedliner and soon sound proof mat to cut road noise.

Getrags have their problems, but they're nothing compared to the 727 from what I understand. Good choice sticking with the stick.

I've had 3 other cummins with Getrags and have only done any work to one of them. I was a Dodge mechanic for about a dozen years and while I like the NV4500 I had lots more of them apart than Getrags, even the newer ones with the reverse fix done.

I've never run a divorced t-case so that will be new for me. I like the shorter rear drive shaft idea.
