i just checked the oil in the rear of my 99 3500 tdr and found metal shavings on the magnetic dip stick, the pu has 130. ooo miles on it and i pull a 16,000 lb fifth wheel trailer. at 100. 000 was the last time i checked it and it was not showing any wear . i'm using royal purple 90 /140 sinthetic oil. and i think i need to find a place that sells the replacement parts. is there a better ring and pinion setup than the stock parts. thanks

Check with quad 4x4 Home Good people to deal with. My guess is you are losing a bearing. If it hasnt gone too far, you may be able to just replace the bearings and salvage the R&P. Wont really know i suppose until you get it broken down.

I noticed quite a bit more pieces of metal on mine as well when I switched to RP 90 /140. I also lost my limited slip when I switched to the RP. I have since switched to Amsoil but haven't done a comparison yet.
