Hey guys, I have a question... My '97 5spd is 'supposed' to have 3. 54's in the rear (so says the sticker), and I was always under the impression that it does. However, I was just playing around with a tire size/gear ratio calculator, and when I plugged in the figures for the NV4500 with a 3. 54 rearend it doesn't match up to the mph/rpms that I see normally. So I plugged in 4. 10's for the rearend, and it matches up much better??

Here are the figures I am using:

1st: 5. 61

2nd: 3. 04

3rd: 1. 67

4th: 1

5th: . 75

Here are some basic driving observations:

I hold 3rd gear @ 2000rpm right at 30mph

I hold 5th gear @ 2000rpm at about 66mph.

5th gear hit redline (3000rpm) at 99mph

Are these numbers consistent with anyone else with 3. 54's, or 4. 10's, cause I am pretty confused now?

I have the 4. 10 rear end with 5 sp. and my RPMs are slightly higher than yours - at about 68 mph I'm running 2400 RPM. My tires are slightly oversize - 265 instead of 245.

I had a 97 5 speed with 4. 10's and my numbers were in the 2300-2400 range from 65-70 with 265's also. From what it sounds like, you have 3. 54's.

mph x gear ratio x 336

----------------------------- = RPM

tire diameter

66 x 336 x 3. 54 x . 75

---------------------- = 1930 RPM pretty close to 2000

30. 5 (245 tire)

66 x 336 x 3. 54 x . 75

---------------------- = 1870 RPM

31. 5 (265 tire)

with 4. 10's it's 2235 and 2165 respectively

Alright, this makes more sense... The calculator I was using must have been a bit whacky:cool: . Until a little while ago I would have said I am 100% positive I have 3. 54's, then that calculator threw me off and made me wonder... I am 100% positive again :D

Thanks

Wes
