3. 73 or 4. 10 w/ 48RE and 315s



What's the best set-up for a daily driver that is not used to tow much, but will be used to plow snow?

I would definately not go with 4. 10s.

With 315's, the 4. 10's would allow you to go even taller when the lifts start becoming available. But if you like cruising at 75 or so, the RPM's will be up near 2400-2500.

48re w/ 315 does it cause the transmission to shift to early? and cause all of the usual problems with auto trannys. will it cause early failure of auto. how will they effect towing with the auto?

A couple of the guys with 3. 73/auto/315's have posted that they wish they had got the 4/10's because it shifts to OD a little too soon while towing.

I have the 315's with the 3. 73 and love the highway cruising ability. I don't pull anything heavy very often, but I do burn up the interstates (I already have 12K on the clock after receiving the truck in March). I used to run uncomfortably high rpm's with the stock tire when cruising around 80-85, now it feels smooth at those speeds.

I'm with jlord. I drive 55 miles each way to work every day. She cruises real nice and when I put the hammer down she shifts right at 3200 just about every time. I don't tow very heavy, just a short 2 horse trailer w/ tack room and a 21 ft fiberglass ski boat. 3. 73's work great for everything I've done so far.
