3 cylinder high idle. Why is this desirable versus all 6 cylinders firing? I guess I don't understand the benefits of this? I tried a brief search, and couldn't find it.

Another question involves the smarty and 6 speed trucks in regard to the 3 cylinder high idle feature. I would simply like to know if the high idle works without bothering to wire up the clutch safety switch junk, or if a switch of some kind is still required to make it do it's thing? Does it control through the cruise control switch and buttons and can you adjust the high idle speed in some way or are you stuck with whatever high idle speed it wants you to be at?

If the high idle feature works in a convenient manner, I think that'll probably seal the deal regarding me officially wanting one of those Smarty things...

Regarding the 3 cylinder high idle, I think the intent is to provide faster warm-up --- less white smoke when cold. I know some large marine diesels have that feature for that reason.

it puts a little load on the engine to actually make it warm up. high idle alone will barely bring the needle off the bottom in extreme cold weather.

do the 3rd gen have this feature? i thought it was just the 2nd gen.

I thought I read in a different Smarty thread that it was among the features it offers, although I could easily be mistaken?

It not offer on the Smarty CR, Marco is still working on it.

3 cyl vs 6 cyl, is with 3 cyl high idle you double the amount of fuel to that cylinder for it to run at the same rpm as it would to running on 6 cyl's, which will create more heat because the engine has more load. But you have 3 dead cyl's that will have cold air passing thought it at the same time . The cold air is only heated from the compression and not the burning of fuel. So it can be a catch 22.

The smarty gave me the high idel that you can set with cruise control which I did not have before. My truck at winter would automatically raise up to about 1300rpm when running before smarty. Actually never got cold enough to find out if I had the 3cyl high idel last year but if not I really hope thats in a smarty release.

Would we be safe to assume you have an auto?
