I'm wanting to install the Dodge "Test Pipe" and a walker straight through muffler on my 97 2500. I'm not planning on doing more Bombing than just this and the addition of a TST plate, so I'm not going to the 4" Exhaust. (I've already got Autometer Guages) First off, when I go to Doge to order the test pipe should I just tell the salesman what I'm doing, or should I be discreet about it? I know it's none of there biusness what I'm doing, but I don't want any problems. Maybe someone can give me a phone # to a "helpful" dealer they've used to purchase one from before. Secondly, Iv'e seached for info on the walker muffler from NAPA, but can't find anything about a 3" one. Do they make one, or do I need to get a 4" and purchase reducers. Any advice and part numbers would be greatly appreciated.

The Dodge guys won't care, just give them the part number and all is good.

The Walker 3" part number is 21468 and the 4" numbers are 21471, and 22572. Dynomax also make a few stright through mufflers that will work too. They are smaller so they will be a bit louder.

If it were me I'd do the 4" Muffler and put on a 4" Tailpipe, other wise reduce to the 3" Tailpipe.

I'm going for the best value route. What is are the dynomax part numbers? If I go with the 4" tailpipe, does it go straight out the muffler, or do I have to replace some 3" pipe with 4"? I would like some more info about where to get the tailpie also.

Sorry if I'm asking redundant questions, I've never worked on any exhaust before. Just trying to get some parts together to take to the local muffler shop.

Thanks again!

3" EXHAUST

I DONT KNOW HOW IT IS IN GA. ,BUT HERE IN TEXAS I JUST WENT TO THE LOCAL MUFFLER SHOP AND HAD THEM CUT OUT THE UNWANT PARTS AND INSTALL A PIECE OF STRAIGHT PIPE ON MY 2001 HO ABOUT TWO WEEKS AFTER I BOUGHT IT. MADE IT A LITTLE LOUD BUT IMPROVED PERFORMANCE. COSTS ME 40. 00.

Value route,

Get a 3" flow thru muffler that has both 3" inlet and outlet, and get a short piece of 3" pipe to replace the cat. Prolly need a sleeve of some kind to connect the 3" downpipe to 3"cat replacement pipe.

You will have factory 3" downpipe into, 3" cat replacement pipe, into 3" muffler flow thru muffler, into fatory 3" tail pipe. Parts needed ( aprox ):

1 - 3" muffler

1 - 32" x 3" pipe

1 - 3" adapter

2 or 3 - Additional 3" clamps

If you're replacing the muffler DON'T bother with the test pipe. The test pipe starts at 3" inlet and has a 4" outlet for the funky muffler that Dodge uses. Your new muffler should be 3" in and out,so just get a section of straight 3" pipe to make up the difference.

I know how you feel, I spent alot of time looking for the best value exhaust and it can get frustrating.

I guess I would agree that if you are going to replace the muffer with a 3" don't bother with the test pipe.

I'd get a 4" Muffler - Take your pick, test pipe, and Walker number 54150 (this is a 4" tailpipe). Your favorite exhaust shop can do the install for you, I'd guess for ~$50.

The easier and cheaper way to go, and the good enough way IMO (especailly if you are not heavily BOMBed - over 300hp) is to get a 3" muffler with the 3" pipe as others are suggesting.

My $. 02,

Ryan

to ditch the cat all you need is a straight piece of pipe , if you live in a state that does emission testing you may want to just gut the cat , drive a long piece of pipe thru it to knock out the honeycomb , then maybe try to put a piece of pipe thru it to keep the drone down . wit hit back in place no one will be the wiser .

3" straight thru muffler of some sort , word of caution on the dynomax race magnum , if you have a LOAD hooked to the truck and have to get in it , it gets real loud , finally had a decent load on my truck with 4" dynomax that has a years worth of soot blocking the resonace chamber holes and the wife gave me the look  , you know the look . i'll be adding another muffler ... :(

just remembered i had the stock elbow on so i was making 32 plus psi of boost with the wastegate wide open , that may have contributed to the noise ... ????
