Should my 04.5 have a rattle sound during mid range rpm's?

I have an 03 diesel ram 6speed that has 207,000 on it, Yeh I'm makin it work.

Anyhow my problem is sometimes it idles correct speed and then sometimes it

idles as high as 1100 in the summer? Doesn't matter if air is on or not. It never does it at startup, but after it's warmed up. If I turn it off for 5 min. then it uasilly idles OK. Now when it does this it's not the same as when it idles up in the winter. If you put it in gear, 1st and begin to let the clutch out

it slows right down to 500 where there is torque to pull. In other words it doesn't try to stay there if you put any work to it. I should mention I have 4in straight through resonater and 4in exhaust.

I have 174,000 on mine, and its been doing the same thing, not all the time though, like you say, just when its warm or hot. I thought maybe the pedal wasn't returning all the way.

I think there's actually a high idle feature for hot conditions. When airflow over the radiator is poor and the engine temperature is high, the ECM can go into a high idle to increase the coolant flow rate. But I can't find any evidence of this in the Powertrain diagnostics manual. You guys notice a slightly high coolant temperature when this happens?

Martion... congrats on the mileage!! Any problems (other than this one)?

That could be it but sometimes it's not really very hot as I'm not pullin anything, other times when the temp guage really is showin a little hot it doesn't do it.

Any other problems? Well I had to replace the fuel lift pump at 180,000 and one universal joint. Also I caught a front wheel bearing not having any grease, so You have to take the front wheel almost all apart and there is a probe inserted into the front bearings{maybe to read tempature] you take that probe out and using a hypodermic needle with the needle off you can fill the bearing chamber up.

I will say just a little more, Last summer I was out in the southwest in as high as 110 degrees, pullin up a hill loaded my fan would kick in when needed, [over 200degrees] but it never idled high, this summer I'm not gettin in to much high temp. zones and my fan hasen't kicked in once, because the temp. guage hasen't shown high enough. Thanks for the feedback though. It's not really a bad problem, it's that it is not supposed to act this way I think.
