It's been 3 months since the transfer case literally exploded on my truck. I took it to dodge and it sat for 2 weeks while I waited for the part to come off back order. That never happened even until this day. So I began a used search and after the 3rd incorrect delivery this past friday I don't know what to do. The used parts supplier is saying they sent the correct transfer case. The transfer case they sent has the serial number 241 D. The transfer case dropped from my truck is a 241 DLD. They don't match. According to the used parts supplier they said the 241 DLD transfer case is used on the automatic transmissions. Since I have a 5 spd I should be matched with a 241 D. I ran this by dodge and they looked at me like a deer in headlights. Could it be possible that dodge didn't even recognize that the wrong transfer case was installed and somehow rigged up to work with my truck? Therefore when I ordered the part online from the used parts suppliers I ordered correctly base on year/model and received the actual part that should be in the truck but since it doesn't match the transfer case actually in the truck dodge is saying I have ordered the wrong part. I hope this clear to you readers. I believe I'm having a hard time articulating this but it's been three months and I just need to know which is the correct transfer case for my truck. It's a 2002 5spd.

Thanks a ton for your input.

The x-fer case is an easy change. Have you checked around the local junk yards?

Depending on the original config of your truck, you could have either the 241d or the 241hd. If you had the Camper Prep or Snow Plow Prep package, you should have the 241hd, else, you will have the 241d.

I believe they both have the same input and output shaft on the 5-speed, but the HD had heavier duty internals.
The 6-speeds all came with the 241hd with larger input and output shafts (at least as I remember it).

These cummins equipped trucks came with 2 transfer cases that I'm aware of. A 241 DLD [light duty] & 241 DHD [heavy duty]. Both will fit your truck, but you need to make sure that you get one with a input shaft to mate up to your manual transmission, automatics use a different input shaft.

Just to clarify. I've learned that these transfer cases were made by new venture. The transfer case that I have in my truck which broke is made by new process (NP 241-DLD) There is a difference because I compared the two and they aren't the same.
