Now I'm no diesel mechanic but my new 04 does some things that are bugging the s^*# out of me. I'm wondering if my truck is alone on this or if everyone has the same deal.

-The truck runs OK when started cold but pops up and down a bit in rpm each time the fuel/air heating cuts in. a lot more dramatic than my 99 was.

-The exhaust smells strong of fuel when cool and even once warmed to operating temperature. again more so than the 99.

-The acceleration rate will increase if I hold the fuel down hard then slowly back off on the pedal. That is to say that if I'm careful not to give too much pedal but just the right amount, then the acceleration improves.

I'd like to hear what you all think about this. I can just see myself trying to get DC to check this out. Any comments appreciated.

Thanks Prairie Dog. I figured it was something I'd have to live with. Wonder why DC has'nt figured a way to get the throttle control in the ECM. to deliver the most efficient acceleration. The difference is easy to notice. Feels like its over fueling till you back off just a bit. :)

Actually you might be feeling the ECM de-fueling the engine at WOT. This would still be normal, as DC uses "torque management" to keep the fueling from getting too high. This is used mostly to help the transmission live.
