Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) 30 psi from the lift pump

I have had this intermittent problem for more than a year now. My normal fuel pressure is around 13 to 14 but every once in awhile I look down and it's at 23psi. even at an idle. Verified the gauge is not at fault with a mechanical hooked to the VP. Did the Geno's big line relocate with a new LP and still get the high pressure from time to time. Just got back from a 4000 mi. trip and a number of times I was at almost 30psi. The truck has run great with no problems. Could this be an electrical problem?

I think your relief valve is sticking,or you have a restriction in your return line.

I dont have the answer to your problem, but there is a thread called pump cavitation. Which is in regard to cavitation with a stock lift pump. Im just surprised that it is not cavitating and dropping its presssure off, verses climbing to 30 psi.

I relocated and changed the LP at the begining of the year also replaced the relief valve and no change in the problem. Guess I will just put up with it since the problem has been going on for over a year and no problems yet.

I'd look into it more as from what I've read here these VPs don't like too high psi and I think max Bosch rates 22. 5. I'd hate to see your VP go out due to too high psi. possible something is in the line before relief valve and floats in and out of the way? try removing valve and flush ? ? ?
