Things you will need...
1. Patience. It took me most of the day to do mine, as I wanted to take my time and make sure everything was A-OK.
2. Supplemental instructions. Piers' instructions are decent, but I found them to be lacking in some areas. Search through the site and print off anything that looks to be of any value. Also, on Fritz' Ram page there is a good set of instructions if you are going in from the top, which I didn't do, but still found parts of it helpful.
3. A LARGE bladed screwdriver to remove the spring retainer nut. I found this to be awkward and difficult, but you'll get the hang of it. Since I will probably have to go back in and adjust mine, I am thinking of making a tool that will stradle the threaded shaft in the center of the springs and will turn the nut from BOTH sides instead of prying against one side at a time. (This will make sense once you get in there and see what I am talking about. )
4. A good pencil magnet is absolutely necessary.
5. If you are going in through the side (which I did, and Piers' instructions will direct you to do) I used a wobble-socket to get the plug out. Not absolutely necessary, but it made it kind of easier. I also removed the arm for the starter solenoid, (after the entire solenoid assemby) and this made it easier to get the plug out/in and made it easier to see what I was doing. If you remove the arm, take care to put it back in the same location on the shaft.
6. Vernier calipers
7. Be prepared to go back in and adjust the spring retainer nut. I had to adjust my idle afterwards, and now my accelerator has a very soft feel, which I don't like. This weekend I will probably go back in and play with the springs a little bit to see if it makes any difference.
8. Have fun! Enjoy yourself, and the time spent is well worth it!
