I installd a #10 and a 3gsk on my 98 12V auto. If I free rev it, it will run up to 3600 rpm, and sometimes if the transmission shifts down to 2nd while I'm passing, it will do the same thing. My question is, is this normal for a 3gsk? It runs great, I'm just controlling the rpm's with my foot for now.

Thanks

Thats odd, it should have a RPM governor @ 3000. At least mine does, I can't ever get it over 3000, but then again, I have the manual and its not the best thing in the world to do with a 12v. Also, don't keep doing that if you don't have the heavy duty 60 lb. exhaust valve springs installed otherwise you'll scatter your valve train all over the place, not to mention just decreasing the engines overall life. They were designed to only spin 3000 redline for a reason.

I just ordered the 3K spring kit for my 96. Plan on setting the governor lever at the same time I install this. Where is the lever supposed to hit on a TST #11 plate?

adding more fuel will decrease the engine's life... adding a 3000GSK will decrease the engine's life.

They were designed to only spin 3000 redline from the factory, but they spin that and then some in marine applications all the time.

I wind my 97 out to 3400 often. when it breaks traction, sometimes it'll flash to 3500, but I try to keep it around 3400 as that seems to be what people have said is "safe" with the stock valvesprings.

I have no worries taking it beyond 3000rpm, and I don't see any reason anyone else should.

According to the people I ask about this, it should be adjusted to hit right at the very bottom edge of the plate. I think about 1/16" away from the very bottom edge. That way it can ride up the entire profile of the plate. I guess your supposed to adjust it very little, like a maybe a 1/2 turn to 2 turns depending on how far out of adjustment it is, tighten the lock nut, pull the shut off lever up and open the throttle a bit to see where it is hitting and it should be good. I am so not looking forward to that adjustment if I have to do it when I install my #10 plate tonite. But I think the forgiving profile of the 10 should make it hit the plate properly.
